Holidays

Wanting a bit of advice re Cruise's. Im pretty well travelled through both holidays and international working, but have never been on a cruise.

Any advice regarding the best Cruise lines to go for ?

What I really dont want is one rammed with kids, like butlins on sea, but also not one full of ten bob millionaires.

Any recommendations?
Azamara cruises...fucking amazing, did Amalfi etc, no kids :)

Edinburgh in March with a day visit to Dundee. Hoping to visit a cemetery in Dundee as my grandfathers brother is buried there. Ran away from home to sign up in Scotland to fight in first world war (aged 15). Got killed in action and don't think any family ever been to grave

Miami for 6 nights in June then move on to Boston for a week.

Somewhere in UK in September, maybe Lake District and visit friends in Durham
Good luck mate, hope you find him.

Going to the Spanish mainland end of May. 4 nts in Madrid then AVE train down to Seville. 4 nts there and finally on to Cadiz for 7 nts. First time doing this type of trip. Any advice would be appreciated Blues.

Lived in Madrid for a while and it's a very nice city to visit when it's not the cold of Winter or the heat of Summer (which feels most of the year to be honest). They have an expression - 8 months of Winter and 4 months of hell! Lots to do though and quite a pretty city in places.

Seville is more stunning architecturally but I prefer nearby Cordoba and Granada.

Only had a day in Cadiz but it was a pleasant day with very nice beaches and some interesting monuments.

The taxi driver who took us from Malaga airport to Granada was banging on about how much better than Seville Granada was, but he's wrong. Whilst I enjoyed Granada, as I have said on here often, Seville is the best city in Europe for the architecture and parks, which is mainly what I'm interested in.

That will be a fantastic trip. Seville is amazing and the AVE service is a joy.

Worth having a look at day trips to Segovia and Toledo (neither is far from Madrid by train, but Segovia is the best if you only have time for one).

Things not to miss in Seville, the first three being absolute world class must not miss attractions:-
  • The Alcazar
  • The cathedral + Girlada
  • The Plaza Espana
  • Parque Maria Luisa
  • Las Setas
  • Case de Pilatos

I'll have a full guide to Seville up on my YouTube channel before you travel, but for now, here's a video we did about travelling in Spain using the train.

You are of course wrong and your taxi driver was indeed correct.

Prague is streets ahead of either though IMHO, though I may be slightly biased ;-)

The fast trains to Madrid are brilliant - especially if you're with a bunch of mates emptying the buffet car of beer ;-) go faster than anything in the UK too - beer and speed!

They do a rooftop tour of the cathedral in Seville. Quite a few steps but great views over the city as the sun goes down. Reasonable price as well.

Told Mrs PJ I fancy a long haul to South Africa in 2026.
Mrs PJ “ - Isn’t it dangerous there?”
PJ -“ Well I wouldn’t go near Pretoria”
Mrs PJ “ No he is horrible that man with no legs. Shot his girlfriend dead”

Anyway, any advice on Cape Town would be good.

Did it a few years ago .but will be pricey now Very interesting but you'd be better on a car trip stopping at your own pace for airboat ride, Seminole Indian village visit (alligator wrestling etc), Cape Florida etc probably in conjunction with the Florida keys - Key Largo, Marathon, Islamorada, Bahia Hondo sand beach and especially Key West are unforgettable. For Everglades - insect repellent a must.
