Holidays

Just a quick heads up. A public service broadcast if you like.
Do NOT go to Puglia on the heel of Italy . It’s a proper dump . There’s no Irish bars, or pubs selling full English brekkies. The little historical towns with their bloody historical towers and cathedrals and Roman ruins , their Ottoman inspired buildings which are free to visit in most cases just aren’t worth the effort.
Extortionate prices for food and drink is the norm. Yesterday I was charged 3 Euro for a 660 ml bottle of Peroni Rosso and had to drink it on a crappy terrace overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
They can’t even cook spaghetti. I’ve had it 4 times and it’s nothing like the Heinz tins.
And don’t even get me started on the restaurant owner who left me a bottle of wine at my Airbnb because we visited his establishment.

Don’t drive on the road from Otranto to Santa Leuca de Maria on the coast road because there’s nothing to see.Its like a boring M61.
The locals are miserable sods and as soon as I find out what Ciao and Buongiorno mean , which they all call me with a smile on their face, I’m gonna kick off.
Some of them even pretend to know Manchester Citeeeeeeee.

Right .
Back to Fuengirola next year .
We stayed in Sorrento a few years back but hired a driver to take us around the region. The food & wine in the Puglia region is just stunning

Naples is a great city to visit @C90

It’s got an historical old city where you have piazza plebiscito

You have endless little alleyways to explore.

You can also get a boat over to the amalfi coast if necesary.

You could climb mount Vesuvius or visit Pompeii,

There’s also Caserta which is pretty.

Incredible food too.
Just don't go as a football fan ;-)

The fish is still flapping its tail as it’s put in front of you , it’s that fresh .
Did a wine tasting last week and , I kid you not, they poured six glasses of at least 250 ml in each one . A pity I was driving .
I bought a few that I’m planning on filling the suitcase with . Luckily , I’ve found that it’s not as expensive as it used to be to import some bottles .

From last weeks not completely honest review , I’ll fill in a few blanks .
Cappuccinos , Lattes , espressos etc usually come in at about a Euro to €1.50 , the croissants, pasticiccio etc about the same .
The food is amazing and value for money is very good . A roasted sea bass will be about 12 Euro. Pasta is delightful , as expected .
I’ve only had one dodgy meal and that was in a tourist trap of a place when I’d just arrived at our third resort .
I’ve done a cooking class that was breathtaking in its simplicity and its taste .
The sea is astonishing, clear and warm . Beaches are usually busy but will get more so once the Italian holidays kick in .
Driving is fairly easy if you’re confident . Just don’t be put off by the Fiat 500 Sat 3 inches off your bumper at 120 kmh .

Anyway . For me it pisses all over Tuscany, Milan , Lake Como , Cinque Terre etc . It’s an absolute blast .

I’ll get a lot more out of the next time I come here .

Cheap
I'm going to Naples for a day in October:)
Never been before.

We get on a cruise ship in Rome with a few stops in Italy France and Spain, then on another ship to Cape town, then another to Brisbane via Singapore.
54 nights !!
I'll be fat as a pig :)
Cheap high quality pizza isn't for everyy, but it was for me! That sounds a great trip,Rome is rammed with people but some great sites to see

Why would you actually do that to your face ffs cmon why ..

Anyone been to Naples? Thinking about a 4-5 day mini-break early autumn. Not too touristy - up for a bit of everything as long as I don't get killed.
It’s got quite a lot to see, most of the stuff they pulled out of Pompeii is in the Museum in Naples. Pompeii is fine but Herculaneum which is nearby is much better preserved and dead easy to get to on the Circumvesuviana train.

There is quite a lot of graffiti but don’t let that put you off, it is reasonably safe but prone to pickpockets as most major cities.

Whilst it’s lovely out of season, driving down the Amalfi drive in peak season can be a bit hairy in a hire car, mainly because everyone else uses their car like a dodgem (most have bits missing and dents) and the bike riders all think they are Valentino Rossi. Just hire a driver for the day, might set you back a hundred or so Euro but well worth it.

As others have said the ferry to Capri is OK for a day trip, if you walk a bit away from the designer shops there are some cheaper but good places to eat. Proper home made pasta and fish dishes used by the locals.

Ischia is also nice, much less touristy than capri.

Did a cruise down the West Coast of Italy, wasn’t impressed with some of the locals, can be very sharp with Tourists. Thought Napoli was quite dodgy and certainly wouldn’t hang around the Centre when it goes dark.

Was in Rome for a day and didn’t particularly enjoy the City due to the amount of traffic. Best two places for me were Amalfi and Taormina in Sicily, stunning places.

My mate did a week in Rome and his other half dragged him round the religious sites, he said he was “churched out” but enjoyed it, each to their own but definitely not for me.

I thought Capri was fine. Had lunch in Anacapri then up on the ski lift to Mount Solaro for some exquisite views of the Bay of Naples.
The Amalfi Coast is great. I stayed in Priano which is nothing more than a village just down from Positano.
The roads are lethal though and you often find the remains of a wing mirror.
Amalfi town is neat too.

And both are difficult with luggage. We usually use Romeinlimo, not cheap, but worth it no hassle
A really nice way to start your cruise. We were on a package deal with the flight and coach thrown in so nay mither. The deal was called the Holy land Explorer but wouldnt fancy doing it right now, were both much safer in Cleethorpes.

Was due to depart Manchester half an hour ago to one of the Greek islands
The plane is fully boarded and we've been sat here waiting
Captain has just announced, we were allocated a departure slot but the baggage handling went down which meant a delay in the bags being loaded
The knock on to this is due to the conflict in the ME, air traffic is really congested over the Balkans and were now potentially sitting on the plane for a further two hours before departure

The fucking baggage dept at Manchester!!
