Holidays

Was due to depart Manchester half an hour ago to one of the Greek islands
The plane is fully boarded and we've been sat here waiting
Captain has just announced, we were allocated a departure slot but the baggage handling went down which meant a delay in the bags being loaded
The knock on to this is due to the conflict in the ME, air traffic is really congested over the Balkans and were now potentially sitting on the plane for a further two hours before departure

The fucking baggage dept at Manchester!!
Fucking disgrace,2 hour wait possibly and that’s some excuse using the conflict in the ME as well..

Shite that bud.

We had to sit on a plane on the runway at Manchester for two hours last August due to fog in Porto.

I feel your pain.

Get a claim in.
If your delayed anything over 3hrs I think it is.
We had similar going to turkey sat there for 4 hrs ish.
I filled the claim form in before we took off.
Had 1200 in my bank by the time we checked in to the hotel

Just a quick heads up. A public service broadcast if you like.
Do NOT go to Puglia on the heel of Italy . It’s a proper dump . There’s no Irish bars, or pubs selling full English brekkies. The little historical towns with their bloody historical towers and cathedrals and Roman ruins , their Ottoman inspired buildings which are free to visit in most cases just aren’t worth the effort.
Extortionate prices for food and drink is the norm. Yesterday I was charged 3 Euro for a 660 ml bottle of Peroni Rosso and had to drink it on a crappy terrace overlooking the Adriatic Sea.
They can’t even cook spaghetti. I’ve had it 4 times and it’s nothing like the Heinz tins.
And don’t even get me started on the restaurant owner who left me a bottle of wine at my Airbnb because we visited his establishment.

Don’t drive on the road from Otranto to Santa Leuca de Maria on the coast road because there’s nothing to see.Its like a boring M61.
The locals are miserable sods and as soon as I find out what Ciao and Buongiorno mean , which they all call me with a smile on their face, I’m gonna kick off.
Some of them even pretend to know Manchester Citeeeeeeee.

Right .
Back to Fuengirola next year .
Funnily enough, I live in Fuengirola and booked to go to Puglia mid July for 11 days. Few nights in each of - Bari, Ostuni, Lecce, Matera and Giovinazzo. Very much looking forward to it now after reading your post. If you have any other tips they’d be most welcome!

We got away an hour and 40 after scheduled departure, but they always build 20/30 minutes into flight times and apparently had a good tail wind, so we were just over an hour late on arrival

However, the baggage system issue at Manchester means that there are a number of travellers whose luggage hasn't arrived

Tips wanted ;

Ok we travel a lot, been a fair few places this year on little 2 nighters, busy little trips, but pretty much always go to greece for a week in aug. We love greece, love everything about it. But do fancy a change next year and thinking italy.

Never really been anywhere but rome so need help!!

Our tick boxes are;

1 hour ish from aiport.
Small resort.
Nice sandy beach with calm waters.
Beach/marina front bars and restaurants.
Quiet!!!
Place we are going in greece (stoupa) has about 15 bars/eateries , and thats fine.
No loud music bars, tribute acts/kareoke, none of that stuff.

So a quietish italian resort, enough bars and restaurants to last a week.

Go …

Alberobello is unlike any other place in Italy. Its whitewashed houses with conical roofs — trulli — make the town truly unique and unforgettable. These architectural fairytales create an atmosphere you won't find anywhere else in the world.

Just returned from Munich and have now finally discovered an airport that is worse than Manchester Our flight was not even on the departure board.

Anyway, that aside, it was a fantastic weekend and despite having seen The Eiffel Tower, The Colusseum, The Leaning Tower of Pisa, and many more world class sites in recent years, I finally got to see a place that I’ve always wanted to see close up. A true iconic sporting arena. I was a bit young for the Olympics and the 74 World Cup so I think it was probably Forest winning the European Cup with Trevor Francis’s diving header when I first saw it.

The whole Olympic Park is a shining example of what an Olympic legacy should look like. As my daughter said: “Architecture. Greenery. Water. Geese. What’s not to like?”

My clothes didn’t arrive once.

Basically because my ( oh I’m so good at packing and don’t you dare go near the case because you are a man and men are stupid) wife just didn’t pack them despite me leaving them on top of the case!

Anyone been to hurghada in November ? Md and wife booked a week in November and was wondering what the weather is like.
Went in November years ago. Weather was decent enough but unheated pool was a bit cool. One thing I do remember is it seemed to get dark straightaway like someone turned the lights out rather than gradually going from dusk to dark.

I hate pools. Can’t stand lying in wet shorts. I only go in if it’s absolutely boiling so when we go away in April to Canaries etc I don’t go in at all. Being rubbish at swimming doesn’t help either!

That happens after a few bottles of drink :-)

Not sure if it was just the terminal I was in but have to say Munich was a very underwhelming airport.

Agreed. Forgot to say that some of the staff were surly as well, one security guy being very aggressive towards my daughter for no apparent reason, demanding that she show her boarding pass quicker than the five seconds that it took her to get her phone out of her bag.

When we went to Prague our flight from Manchester was cancelled an hour before it was due to leave. We got diverted to Southend the next morning and Easyjet paid for a taxi to take us there and put us up in a hotel. We put in a claim and received more compensation than we had actually paid for the holiday
