Holidays

Has anyone been to the Cinque Terre and got any recommendations for how best to do it?

Got myself into a bit of a mess trying to coordinate a holiday with my wife's family (they live in France). The original plan was to meet in northern Italy and then spend a week in the alps. We made the early decision to book flights to Milan, very reasonable for summer holidays. However, through the typically French approach to not getting things done prices spiralled so she's sacked off the Italian leg and we'll meet them in the Alps. We then had a week in Italy to sort and the nearest affordable place was a campsite about 30mins south of Pisa (looking forward to a 4hr drive from Milan on day 1)!

On our way back up to the Alps we might as well see the Cinque Terre as the route takes us past La Spezia. Any recommendations? Likely we'll just do a day there then head on.

Thinking of a bit of a road trip to northern France, any recommendations ?

Some high-level ideas on this website which you could use as a guide and then refine. Depends on how long you've got and how far you want to venture..."The Grand Est" could be worth a visit - Colmar/Troyes and the Alsace wine route. Or the NW coast.

Mrs booked week in Rhodes in September for us. Neither of us been and looking forward to it. Been going Nice and south of France for 7 of last 8 years and she fancied a change
I’m out there end of august staying at Stegna. Just over three weeks away before we go.

Off to Cala Millor next week, although Majorca is very much our favourite destination as a family we've never been that side of the island for some reason so looking forward to it. Anyone been previously and any tips as to what to do?
Cala Millor is really nice, slowly morphing into Cala Bona. Cala Millor has the bigger centre and is more German oriantated, whereas Cala Bona has more of a British influence with a beautifull promenade walk between the two. You can even have a gentle wobble around to Sa Coma in 30 minutes, so enough to keep you all entertained. Cala Bona has a nice harbour vibe, with bobbing boats, bars and restaurants to please.

If you’re going with your partner don’t forget to buy matching cagoules to blend in with the other tourists.

I personally find the Lake District a bit bland but I like City breaks for short holidays where there’s much more going on, water and sheep just doesn’t do it for me but each to their own.
It’s for me and the dogs mate, I like my city breaks as well but the exercise keeps me sane. Far too much going on in my head :(

Nice one, plenty of different places to take your dogs for walks. When I had my Courier Business we did some deliveries for @meeesh in the Lake District, really nice drive up there, did a Japanese Lager delivery to a high end Japanese restaurant up there, think it was £7 a pint 5 years ago. made a change from mundane motorway driving.

Speaking of which, I've 5 kegs to get to Carlisle, any availability :)

We stayed in La Spezia and did it on the train

Just back from my first trip to the Lake District! The area around Windermere is stunning the town itself was rammed with people so don’t stay long, way too many for my liking, I’ll visit in October when all the tourists have fucked off. Now I’ve got my van I’ll be going up there on a regular basis.
Try Keswick too, beautiful spot but better when quieter. Loads of stunning walks, pubs and places to eat. We’ve a caravan there and love it.

Between now and Christmas I’ve got the Edinburgh Fringe, a few days in North Yorkshire based in Pickering but doing Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, etc., a week doing Capri, Pompeii and the Amalfi coast, a few days darn sarf visiting Monkeyworld, a Thames trip on a paddle steamer and a golf jolly, another trip to Edinburgh, a week in Venice and a few days in Nice.

Should tide me over.
