Holidays

Just booked a last-minute trip to NY for me and my wife (28 Feb for 4 nights). Never been before. Managed to get a hotel for the 2 of us about a 15-minute walk from Times Square

She's an artist, so were going to spend a day at MoMA, and then I've also booked tickets for the top of the Rock. Apart from that, not got anything else planned. Probably just a mooch around and see where we end up.

Only planning to take carry on, and I'm definitely taking my camera, but not sure what lenses to take. Probably just my 24-105mm on this trip which will fit in my sling. Although I'd love to take my big lens it will take up too much room, and with the weather being so cold this time of year, I'll need all that space for extra clothes.

Just had 3 nights in krakow.

Really enjoyed it.

Auschwitz was… devastating. Hard to grasp really.
Got a train up to the ‘polish alps’ and spent a day in Zakopane which was lovely, had great views, but busy and full of tacky market stalls .

I adore social history and krakow is full of it.
The old town is lovely but i equally like seeing the brutalist buildings from the communist era.

Not exactly a holiday but got next weekend in thurnham hall for my birthday, pool , gym sauna etc and ride into morecambe for KFC and cinema !
Stayed there a couple of times. Nice and relaxing. Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham close by. Nice bracing walk from Heysham to Half Moon Bay cafe is nice. Trough of Bowland if you venture inland.

Went to Lapland/Finland last weekend and stayed in an ‘adult hotel’ in the middle of nowhere. No shagging unfortunately but the whole experience was exceptional. -30 outside but hot tubs and champagne, proper scran, skidoos, husky ride, lots of booze and the best Northern Lights show they’ve had this year. It felt like I was on a film set the whole time

Have a great time @Trevor Morley's Tache.
Might be worth doing a bus tour of the City and/or a Ferry to get close up to the Statue of Liberty.
The 9/11 memorial is an experience too.

Thinking about Khao Lak Thailand in July
Being told it’s Monsoon season ?
We're just back from KL where we go most years. If you want some advice on where to stay let me know with a DM. July could be OK if you're lucky, any later I wouldn't risk it. We had a massive thunderstorm last Monday and that's in the dry season.

We've just added an extra night, so we don't need to rush around too much. We might chuck in a Staten Island ferry round trip and add in Brooklyn Bridge. Just depends on the weather. It's currently around 10 degrees lower in New York at the moment.

The only thing I'm gutted about is the lunar eclipse on the 3rd Mar. Were staying in Midtown Manhattan and the moon will be out West over Newark at just after 6am, so pretty much zero chance of seeing it compared to where we are currently living.

We've not been able to travel for a couple of years while SWMBO was taking part in a trial at the Christie but now she's been clear of her high grade cancer for a year we're off on a few cruises... Two weeks in the med to get back into the swing then 23 days doing the panama canal and Asia for a few weeks in the new year

I fancy Vietnam and Cambodia but the boss lady doesn't so that one can stay on the bucket list

Went to Robben Island yesterday and it was an unforgettable experience. Part of the tour was led by a former political prisoner.
Was his name Jimy?......On the boat going over me and the wife got talking to a English couple sitting next to us,turned out they lived two streets away from us...small world.

Absolutely mint so far. Spent a fortune in Dizzys and met a fellow City lad from Saddleworth on Wednesday there.
Bovine is a nice place to eat and went to Aquila Safari today.
Thank you again @discopop :-)
