Holidays

If you’d have arrived in BCN around lunchtime on Weds, you’d have been quite unhappy! Lines were long and people were slow!

Much quicker on the way out mid-afternoon on Thursday.
Yep. It all depends on how many non-EU flights arrive at the same time as you.

Was panicking on the way home last night. There was an accident on the motorway heading south into Barcelona. Took us an extra 45 minutes in our taxi but luckily we arrived at the airport two hours before the flight. We had carry-on luggage only and the security/EES only took 15 minutes.

just a heads up, looks like Ryanair are chopping flights due to the fuel, they have transferred me to another flight going out to Tenerife in November and cancelled the Return without any options

Anyone been to Bosnia/Montenegro/northern Albania? But obscure but got cheap return flights to Sarajevo in school holidays and thinking about a road trip around those countries - possibly going to Ohrid too.

Flew out to Palma on Saturday, and back into Manchester Tuesday evening

Absolute breeze at passport control at both ends, so dont get too worked up about the odd post on social media telling you differently

The new fingerprint setup is straight forward and takes about 30 seconds, with plenty of people on hand to help you out

Mostar in Bosnia is a treat - famous bridge got bombed in the Balkan War and a rich cultural hot pot. We also visited the Kravice waterfalls.
Kotor in Montenegro is fabulous too. Walled town with narrow streets.

Expecting chaos as summer holidays ramp up if the don’t open the Strait, even then it’s going to take a while to get back to normal.

Definitely, airlines have been trying to gloss over the threat to supplies the last thing they need is for people to stop booking flights or having to offer refunds . Cash in the bank then delay and drag their heels when they are forced to cancel flights or offer refunds.

I’d not be booking separate flight or hotel at this time unless I can get free cancellations with it, I think the media have been told not to highlight it too much either, if that strait doesnt open up by the end of May we are all going to be fucked.

Any reccomendations on where to stay in Skiathos?
We stayed in Troulos, but a bit quiet and uninteresting. Visited nearby areas too and looked similar.

It seems the “stay in Skiathos town and use the buses to beaches” is a popular choice. However the main town was mobbed, full of Instagram hordes and Mama Mia fans. Expensive too.

We loved getting the buses and walking to the remote beaches as it’s a beautiful scenic island. We’ve been to much better islands and would only go back in a much quieter time.

BUT, if you read Tripadvisor and Facebook groups it has loads of serial visitors and boomerangers so maybe it’s me.

Off to Tulum, Mexico on Monday. Can't wait to finish work tomorrow.

Anyone been to Amsterdam ? Would you recommend it ?
Also thinking of going via the ferry, any tips ?
Went late last year via Eurostar. 3 nights - plenty to do & unlike some city breaks we've done could
probably have stayed longer. Plenty of historical stuff (Ann Franks), museums, etc. Easy to navigate on foot & excellent tram system. Beware the cyclists though - jeez.

Thanks, how much was the eurostar ?

The most disappointing city break we've been on. The Anne Frank House is sobering and worth a visit. I liked the canals for about 30 minutes but then got bored. It's a bit like Blackpool after those things with far less interesting buildings than every other place we've been. But a lot of people seem to love it, so perhaps I'm wrong.

Don't do the ferry it takes ages and its often a rough journey, flights take about 45 minutes.

Stay in Zaandam not Amsterdam itself, you'll get a 4 star hotel for less than an absolute dive in Amsterdam. Its 10 mins away on the train from Centraal and a nice town with its own nightlife and very unique architecture anyway.
