Home grown players (merged)

Re: Transfer Policy - English players

If you watch kids like Brandon Barker and Ashley Smith-Brown, these lads seem to have the raw talent to be high level players. The developmental system in most English clubs has been flawed though and 95% of them seem to stall in the 18-21 years. I'd be reluctant to have them play more than one season in the current U21 league.

Huws to Birmingham, Evans to Crewe, Lopes to Lille and (possibly) Zuculini to Villarreal give me hope that City will use the loan system with more efficiency than before (Weiss and Boyata had talent, but the Bolton loan moves were terrible for their development, as was Guidetti's to Stoke). I think we should be looking at sending some of the English boys abroad too (Holland, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, Germany... even the Swiss league seems quite technical), maybe in pairs so they don't feel isolated.

If city look hard enough and work on the youth talent in this country as well as the rest of the world we will have good english talent in our team and im possitve it will happen
You don't know much about the current youth setup do you?

Re: Transfer Policy - English players

Trouble is it will make the premier league lose some of its spectacle. As we will have less of the big world class stars playing and more mediocre Brits playing.

Would that make it a monocle?

Re: Transfer Policy - English players

We need to bring through more homegrown players to be able to balance our books and compete for truly world class stars. We already have the highest wage bill in world football so there is no chance of us competing for Messi, Ronaldo or Rodriquez - with our current squad mix.

you can't sadly jump ahead of time. youngster will come but only with time.

Re: Transfer Policy - English players

as i said, if PL doesnt have a small home grown quota, then you may as well scrap the national teams, personally i dont see any issue with have 2-3 homegrown players in PL first 11.

teams bring together a community of fans, national team brings together the nation of that team. personally theres a need for both and both at top level

True, give it a couple of seasons I think. Regarding the wages that's coming down due to the Barca style contracts being rolled out. Is it not also at least partly down to the unique(?) fact that City hold all image rights so the contracts have to be adjusted up to allow for this?

Re: Transfer Policy - English players

There is no physical difference between a Spanish youngster and an English youngster. The difference in technique and skill can only be down to coaching. Since our coaching has been heavily influenced by the likes of Don Howe and now Howard Wilkinson, it"s no surprise our kids don't develop properly. I've every confidence that by abandoning english coaching in favour of continental methods, kids will come through who will be comparable to their continental counterparts. Whether the english national team will be open to such developments is a different issue, but, in terms of meeting any English quotas we'll be better placed than most in the Medium to long term.
