Homegrown options

I'm not sure I disagree with the fact that it's a mistake, but I certainly disagree with vehemency. Hart was on extremely shakey ground this time last year, on the heels of a very disappointing season. The idea was that we needed to sign competition for Hart -- somebody who could legitimately lay a claim to the starting keeper spot -- rather than a backup keeper. Willy was one of the best keepers in La Liga two years ago. He was relatively cheap, by City standards. It's easy to be revisionist on the back of a good season from Hart, but there's an argument we wouldn't have gotten the best out of him without Willy.

Again, not sure I agree with wasting the HG spot on our current second-choice keeper. Comparing it to Santa Cruz is ridiculous though, even if it's just hyperbole for the sake of it.

I can't find the quote but i'm sure Hart has praised Willy's contribution in making him a better player this season.

I came across this a few nights ago on WordPress, it goes into a bit of detail about the options we have for HG players. Interesting take on some of the players named, not sure I agree with the bits about Wilshere and Brandon Barker though. But it seems spot on about Pozo from what I've seen of him

I disagree mate. Willy is no better than Pantilimon. I don't even think Hart needed a kick up the arse. He just had a couple of unlucky moments that lead to us dropping points. When that happens, the mistakes are picked up on more.

He was still making the mistakes after Willy got here. The goal against Stoke sticks out. He turned it round because he is a very good Keeper in my opinion. He's back at a level where he has been for the last 5 seasons and I think that's more to do with the fact that that is his actual level than anything else.

I also think that some of Hart's best performances came in the higher profile games last season. Barcelona for example. And that save against Swansea as well. It doesn't take a lot for the media to perceive a player to be back at his best. Nor does it take a lot for them to vilify a player.

I think Hart would have got back to his best regardless of his competition, so I still think that spending a relatively large chunk of money (considering we were already heavily taxed by FFP last summer) on a 33 year old foreign back up keeper is daft.

McCarthy, Ward Prowse, Barkley are the three centre midfield players I'd go for.

Another option would be to look at maybe buying a h/g full back and letting one of Sagna or Kolarov go. Rose is the obvious one who springs to mind.

Wouldn't be unhappy with any of those 3 midfielders but Rose isn't good enough for us.
