1970’s were much worse than 80/90’s in my experience
Their was little formal segregation in the 70s and was mental in the grounds sometimes particularly in the early 70s. In the 80s things became much more organised with prearranged clashes between organised mobs. Trouble occurred more often in the 80s but id say you were less likely to get involved if an innocent bystander than in the 70s.

Rest in peace Bulldog. A couple of memories of him. One was Chesterfield away in the league cup. I was sat in Benchill chilling when some lads I knew talked me into going so off I went but I had no ticket. Got to Piccadilly train station, walked up to the first Blue I saw and asked if he had a spare and he did. It fair spooked him out he was like, "How did you know i had a spare ticket??" Anyway Bulldog was on the train I remember some younger lads with him singing Bulldog is our leader and him laughing telling them to fuck off.

Second story is none football related. I was with my cousin in a pub on Oxford road one afternoon. Not sure of the name but it was next door to one of those amusement arcades. Two couples were in there and one lad started on his girlfriend. When the barman tried stopping it both lads started on him. Suddenly four lads ran from nowhere and sorted them both out and I recognised one of them was Bulldog. Seened he knew the barman and he'd helped Bulldog out in the past so he was returning the favour. Great character from back in the day.
was the Chesterfield game the late 70's match or the more recent one with Pearce in charge, with our deadly strikeforce of Corradi and Samaras, lol

Loads of trouble at nearly every high profile game in the 70's. Escort infiltration. Alleyway ambushes. Going in THEIR end/side. Not much security to stop you....just pay in with no colours on.

Going to aways was like a miltary exercise.

Cunts everywhere asking you the time.

I remember the Chesterfield game away when we were in league 2, I went in the home kop that day and Chesterfield fans were out for blood, quite a few skirmishes as there were quite a few blues in the kop that day. I knew a few of the Chesterfield lot and I'm not even sure they would've kept quiet if I'd bumped in to them that day. The problem is Chesterfield is very rag infected and the majority follow them, that's where the anger came from that day
