Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Think it was a semi regular thing for cup games, where they’d swap round the home and away bits in the North Stand. So we’d have just the end bit that was the normal away end, next to the Kippax and they’d have the rest. Liverpool was definitely another FA Cup game where they did that.

Think Tottenham had the whole end on the pitch invasion game though.
Barnsley was the first time they did it, caught them, us and the police by surprise at half time.

Yep, Tottenham did have the whole end ..... I have a memory that Coventry didn't though, they were kind of kept towards the middle of the North Stand , about 4,000-5,000 of them ... and when the 50-100 Coventry yobs broke away from the main body of their support to attack the Main Stand, they had quite a bridge to gap in order to reach it, and a few small fences or walls !!..... but they did reach it and were basically unobstructed in doing so.... they only encountered resistance from departing City fans and stewards who were in the Main Stand itself, as the game reached its end.

What coppers were on duty that day had just been sent OUTSIDE the ground earlier to look out for trouble as fans exited!! ... and the stewards that remained inside the stadium had to try and deal with the situation.

Does anyone remember when several Liverpool fans were outed in the North stand in the fa cup game 1988. Big mistake!
Same as Leeds did about 91-92, they couldn't get on the pitch quickly enough

It was definitely a Saturday, I remember it well ..... there was hardly any cops on duty inside the ground, they were all moved outside towards the end of the match, and City were relying mainly on stewards to control the crowd ..... it was late on in the game, and a mob of Coventry broke away from their support in the North Stand and headed over the barriers/walls into the Maine Stand just as a few City fans were starting to leave early .... a few got into the Maine Stand and tried to mix it with the City fans who were leaving early, but met resistance .... there was a few punches thrown by both sides, but it was just 'handbags' really, and all over in a few minutes, it didn't really escalate into anything serious ... the Coventry fans soon cleared off back into the North Stand.
They regretted it a couple of minutes later when they were driven back into the NS by City who terrorised them with a big mob.

Hi everyone,

Not necessarily violence related but early 1990s related. Does anybody on this thread remember the second round second leg game against Torquay United in the league/rumbelows cup at Maine road? Score was 0-0.

I only ask as I have a friend who played for torquay and we were wondering if anybody has any memorabilia/recollection of the game.

Cheers
I remember it well as it was an awful game, made worse when I got back to my MG Metro after the game some **** had smashed the window on it and nicked my stereo!!

I had my radio nicked one evening whilst at a match. Parked up my Mk2 Escort on one of the side streets up off Parkside Rd. Glass everywhere. Raining. Wet drivers seat. I wouldn't mind but it was a removable radio and I put it under the drivers seat ! "Mind your car mister crew" were paid a quid and the twats still pinched it. Those were the days !

The pic from Whitworth Park was after the 2002 Derby, about an hour before the Science Park

I remember that. I didn't take part in it. What I do remeber is seeing City's firm in their 100's.

It was one of the biggest City hooligan turnouts I had ever seen.

Biggest for many years

That could be true, as the North Stand was given over to Coventry fans, due to the larger FA Cup ticket allocation.
Think Coventry brought a larger than normal support, due to them winning the FA Cup not that long prior to when it was played ?
Don't remember them bringing many for normal League games ?
They never did. Town full of rags and LFC fans who "turn up" for big cup games only

When the Cov twats tried to have a go getting into the Maine Stand, there were a few minutes to go and the Kippax began to clear very quickly. I was in the Family Stand so had a great view of the Kippx emptying as the game was coming to a conclusion.
On the whistle we made our usual way up Maine Road past the souvenir shop to get to the car parked at the Ducie pub. An absolute huge mob had congregated outside the ticket office area and (with my young daughter) we moved out of the way but stopped to take a look lol. Ridiculously the Cov twats, initially held back - were let out a lot sooner than they should have been. We could hear them banging on the exit doors and making ''come on'' noises.....
The gate opened and without waiting to see the welcome ready to greet them, they charged out like Linford Christie at the starting block..... then realised what was in front of them and legged it like fuck to get back inside..... for many... it was too late!

Did you get your money back?

I'll never forget that game.

I was stood outside the North stand with my mate Steve and his Dad, called the 'Crank'. It was kicking off inside the North stand with Coventry. The Crank shouted, "I'll be back in a bit, as he ran into the North stand and towards the fighting that was taking place in the North stand. I just looked at Steve, Steve looked at me, and he said, "that's why he's called the Crank" I just smiled. Some time later the Crank came out of the North stand smiling. :-)
