Those two games were incredibly violent, the game at Anfield was probably the worst violence I have seen in over 50 years of watching the blues, the big worry whenever you went to Everton and Liverpool was they used blades. I didn't mind going to Leeds Millwall, Chelsea, because generally it would be fists and feet. The Merseyside police were also appalling and offered no protection. 5 of us would travel by car until that season. After that we would get the train into Manchester and traveled with the biggest mob, either on the special or service train. The two trips to Merseyside for the cup ties in 81 were an interesting experience. Never seen City take so many to Anfield before or since massive firm no one taking a backward step, somehow got back to our trannie van in one piece some mates not so lucky. We gave every bit as good as we got equal numbers of blues and scousers arrested, and equal numbers hospitalised. The scousers reward for their win West Ham at Wembley where they kept a very low profile.
The Everton FA cup quarter final later that year just as bad. City had to fight a combined Everton, Liverpool mob all the way from Lime Street to Goodison. After the match racist Evertonians eager to target black city fans. The following Wednesday night the Cool Cats gave them a warm welcome to Moss Side for the replay. An Everton mate said it was the most scared he had been in his life. An old man now I look back at my youth with fondness but can't believe how I would risk my life to watch a game of footy. Mad bad crazy days. CTID
Yeah youre right. Chelsea , sheff weds and newc went up with us 4th?Think that Newcastle match was 1984.not 85
Score was 2-1 Newcastle.Steve Kinsey scored for us.just looked it up.
Yes 83/84 season,Newcastle put 5 past us at there place.I remember going to watch us at Cambridge that season 0-0 just over 5,000 attendance, got to be the lowest league crowd I have ever been in.Yeah youre right. Chelsea , sheff weds and newc went up with us 4th?
Some huge attendances in that season
We beat cambridge 5-0 last game of the season tooYes 83/84 season,Newcastle put 5 past us at there place.I remember going to watch us at Cambridge that season 0-0 just over 5,000 attendance, got to be the lowest league crowd I have ever been in.
Was at all the games pal. Coventry were truely put too sleep.I said precious, must he hard for you ger fams to even imagine what it was like
Even towards the late 80s and into the 90s and 00s when police had a handle on the organised violence , there was still fighting that you cant really imagine happeing todat.
1989 v united , the 5-1. The scrapping in the north stand and a massive bunch of red cunts being escorted out past the main stand and into the platt lane corner to a huge chorus of YOURE THE SHIT OF MANCHESTER.
Coventry at hone when a sizeable bunch of them stormed the main stand. Probably thinking it was full of old cunts, only to be met by enough lads to send them oacking.
Middlesborough getting into the north stand at the final whistle and it going off big time. I think city were caught too unawares
All fams visiting maine road knew they were in for a battle if they wanted it.
Im not glorifying any of it. Its what it was at that time
Todays sanitised version of footy hoolies is a million miles away. Even the above instances which were mild compared to a lot that went on is unimaginable in todays game… which is obviously a good thing
