Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Which was the year we met in The Platford pre match?
Was there and often think about this when Rags say we never tried to get to OT. If my memory is right there was a big piece of waste land there and they came across and got turned back. Cannot remember the year, hope some old Blues can help out and add more.

league cup semi 2nd leg?

Few hundred of us that night but under a police escort
There was a big turn out of Blues at the Spoons pub in Chorlton pretty much all day that the police wrapped up for that LC Semi 2nd Leg.

The first leg was ‘interesting’ outside Mary Ds. The police lost control of the situation with dogs being let off and carnage everywhere.

Ahh we all met up at the whalley, and went from there. Police conveniently showed up as we were about to leave, we all have our theories on it.

for that incident in the first leg, United gave the call to say they were walking up past the garages and loads of us run over to meet them, they wasn't there and they did the snide attack on the Manchester/Mary d's and got hit back.

I remember a huge scrap outside the Whalley in the mid 80s before a Derby at the leper colony. I was about 9 years old and sat on the front seats if the upper deck of the bus and had a perfect view of it all. I think it might have been the FA Cup 3rd Round game that we lost 1-0.

That game was an invasion of the swamp.
I was in the K stand watching them below me opening section after section of the utd road terrace for the blues spilling in.

Not completely relevant to this thread as it's a different era but i recall the season in the prem under Joe Royle being quite feisty outside Maine Road on a good few occasions.

Cardiff, at that time, were able to pull in a lot of aggressive, part-time supporters who didn't attend all home games.
City were seen as a big scalp, so loads of fans from the surrounding areas, turned up to confront a much bigger, English club's fans.
After the City match, Luton Town (although not as big a team, by any stretch), in the next round, received a very similar "welcome".
Ninian Park could be very intimidating for big games, but sparsely populated for other matches...

My one visit to Ninian Park was for a cup-tie in January 1967. There were over 37,000 attending and it was probably the most hostile crowd I have ever encountered. The only one that came near it was at Celtic in the Champions’ League a few years back.

The City line-up was close to the title-winning team of the following season apart from Stan Horne at number 4 in place of Mike Doyle, who was up front in what was to become Francis Lee’s place. Johnny Crossan played rather than Tony Coleman.

Alan Ogley was in goal prior to his exchange with Ken Mulhearn. He was targeted by the Cardiff supporters at goal kicks and looked a bag of nerves. We were all very relieved to get away from Ninian Park with a 1-1 draw.

I'm sure I remember a story when I was a young kid, still at junior school so mid/late 70's. They were playing City away and hundreds of them got off the train in Stalybridge and went on the rampage, frightening the old dears out doing their Saturday shopping. About their limit that.
They got off in Bridge but were playing the Rags brought thousands had to win to get a chance of staying up. Remember a picture in the evening news that night of the Mancunian Way being closed as police marched them to the Swamp
They won 1-0

I was a kid and my dad used to drop my mum off in Bridge every Saturday to do the shopping.
He said there were a big group Leeds fans, who'd been thrown off the train and they'd put a brick through Liptons (google it if you're under 50!) plate glass window.
They'd caused mayhem on Melbourne St as well; threatening anyone in their way!

We only had half a shop that week!!!
