Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Did this one time at Sunderland in the early 80s. Drew 0-0, kept in the ground for ages, could see the police trying to move Sunderland away from our exits eventually they moved them on. Once outside I lost my mates in the crowd, most headed to the station and coaches, I had to keep walking straight ahead towards the docks, turned a corner and a couple of hundred Mackems walking towards me, I walked across the road hoping they hadn't seen me cross, next thing they all crossed to.my side, I was absolutely bricking it at this point. I had to either cross again, or walk through them, I decided to cross, they all passed me without doing or saying anything. I know a few of them must have seen me cross twice, but left me alone. Always liked them after that. If they had been rags or scouse, I have no doubt I would have taken a real beating.
Done it a few times but the scariest was Sheffield Utd away. We managed to force a door open at the back of the stand to get out.

It was at the height of the miners strike, and City had been taking the piss during the match with Scargill chants etc.

Anyway a few of us ended up in the middle of their mob as we tried to get back to the car, and my mate the thick **** decided to open his mouth, it was right outside the away end nobody heard him with all the shouting going on, but it was a very lucky escape. We'd have been slaughtered if we'd have been sussed.

Was working a Saturday morning just off peters street in 1974(I think) and had my wrangler jacket on with my City patch sewn into the top pocket. That day Leeds were playing the rags at the swamp and I thought nothing of it till I had to catch the bus at Piccadilly gardens and the rags were everywhere. Has I had my tool box with me I thought there would be no problem but i totally forgot about my patch and three rag cunts walked towards me and one punched me on my chest were the city badge was. Just carried on walking and was glad just to get on the bus home. SCUM.
You should have asked him
“Where’s your tool?”

Bramhall Lane was dodgy as fuck back in the 70s. Me and my mate got the train there, we were both 14. We got punched and kicked a few times off two blokes on the way back to the station. The shithouses!

All on that "back to the big time " VHS with Brian Clarke commentary

"High wide and handsome"

" And he'll be happy with that"

A young Carl Griffiths scoring at MR 5 years before we signed him

Love that VHS wore it out as a kid
The odd game with local commentary too - Walsall / Sunderland?

First day the pubs opened all day. Tell that to the kids today...........
Trying to remember the old hours.

Monday to Saturday
11 30am-3pm
5.30pm-10.30pm

Sunday
12pm-3pm
7pm-10pm?

Maybe a 'late' night of 11pm for Saturday. The 5.30 evening opening was the reason we used to walk back to town for a drink post match (when they were Saturday at 3 for league games).
