Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

Think this was on New years day?
They wrecked the Shady Lady on Oxford rd before the game I think...
That sounds about right. I was only about 13, stood with my mate right next to the Leeds fans giving it the big one until they broke through and we shit ourselves and legged it, getting abused and attacked by City fans going the other way who thought we were Leeds. "We're City!" we were shouting as they replied "Well stand and fucking fight then!".

We played em the next season on Easter monday & they had the same following...all the Platt lane and the standing on the Kippax next to it,think we lost 2-1 & it was just as chaotic before & after the game...

Bringing back some memories reading about different games.
Started going as a kid aged 8 in ‘76 with my neighbors who were mad blues taking me. We used to park at a church on Hart Rd and walk to ground to Platt Lane end, seem some scraps around the car park behind platt lane stand.
Leeds night game I was ballboy so was late getting out after the game, it was bedlam outside and couldn’t get back to the car. Must have been 81/82. Copper told us just get out of here, they were trying to get Leeds to Hough End but City were everywhere chasing them

Anyone remember playing Leeds in, I think, the first season we were in division 2, 83-84 and they broke through from the Kippax corner into the Platt Lane right on half time. At that time plenty of City’s lads had started sitting in the Platt Lane too.
That was the game the Leeds cnuts pushed my Mother over, i was 14 & went mental swinging at everyone around me, i think i hit more City fans than Leeds haha.
Hated the cnuts ever since

Yeah, I remember that one. I might be confusing it with a later one but there was one where their coaches got ambushed and smashed up near to Victoria Station. Something tells me that was a few years later, though, maybe the second time we were in division 2.

The only problems I remember in the 70's were the police, they acted like they hated us. Times have moved on since then.

The old saying of "Treat people like animals and they will act like animals" holds true. Not saying there weren't moments but match going police were a bit heavy handed to say the least.
I don’t think singing ‘Harry Roberts is our friend helped.

I’ve perused a few hooligan books in Airport Departure Lounges, and I’m probably not the only one who immediately searches for the incidents involving City

Birmingham reference the 82-83 goalless draw at Maine Road, which apparently provided the Zulu nickname (and it makes sense if you remember that the violence after their 2007-08 defeat at the ETIHAD was also their 25th anniversary, and the main reason why so many of their old “boys” were out in force that day)

Leeds cite an ambush after their 3-2 victory at Maine Road in November 1977 as their main motivation for the revenge attacks at the FA Cup the following January.

West Ham claim to thave thrown Daft Donald through a Wimpey window,(which sounds feasible), but all their books seem to admire City, especially WANT SOME AGGRO which chronicles the late 60s and early 70s

It definitely wasn't Daft Donald.
