Houssem Aouar

Not meant to say it in such a negative manner. But Gundo will have to compete against potentially 6 people for the CAM spot, and Pep has shown that Rodri is the first choice DM.

So is gundo willing to risk being reduced to just a squad player role? Playing mostly in the less important and easy matches, at 30 years old?

The purchase of Aouar should make our split with Gundogan a mutual decision if anything, gundo is good enough to start for a CL team.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. He would be a superstar in Italy or Spain. Gundogan at Juventus would be a proper standout. It suits him much better than England and Germany where he has played throughout his career. I'd want to leave if I were him. He used to be very quick during his Dortmund days before his long term injury, but his world class brain is still there if not better

be nice deal gundogan for Douglas costa!

If the interest in Aouar is real there are probably a few factors. Pep love his f*%ing midfielders no doubt. He wants options. The season is a slog. He knows there will be injuries and players needing rest. Playing 3 times a week where you're playing Burnley on the weekend, then CL midweek, then a Liverpool again can be a burn. The game plan will differ for each team and how that team sets up. Will they play a low block with 5 at the back, will they press high?

He loves Gundogan because basically he wants to hold on to the ball. You hold onto the ball more, you defend less. Yeah Gundo isn't as good as a #8, but he wants someone who can change formations mid-game because you don't know how they will defend sometimes. So if a team is pressing high Gundo can drop back next to Rodri. Aouar could probably do the same. Of course Gundo next to Rodri will stifle the attack with 1 less player higher up, but again Pep doesn't want to lose the ball. Gundo won't leave, but will probably play less like Silva this season.

He's good but other than playing a bit similar to Iniesta, Aouar doesn't really look an outstanding talent in my eyes. There's nothing about him that really stands out except his technique and he doesn't really do anything extraordinary when I watch him

This is the guy I'd go for:

Everything Aouar does Bernardo can do better, and Phil could probably equal it. I just don't see how we're a better team with Aouar in it. There's also questions over how Aouar would transition to PL as he seems used to taking a lot of touches before passing. Brandt on the other hands is a extremely fast thinker and plays with creativity and directness that is similar to KDB

Yeah but there are lots of factors. With Sancho possibly leaving would Dortmund want to sell another asset? Would Brandt even be interested in coming? There must be signs with Aouar that are favorable to us getting him. He wanting to come here and Lyon willing to part with a reasonable offer. Also I see Brandt better in an attacking midfield role. Kind of similar to Kev although different qualities. If Rodri and Gundo were both unavailable Aouar would seem a more likely candidate to step in.

That's probably true, but I think Aouar's potential is massively overrated. I have a hard time seeing him becoming world class as he doesn't really excel at anything, doesn't give me any special vibes.

Maybe we could snatch up Barella at Inter, he could work great at both 8 and 6 and give us some well needed legs in midfield. He really looks like he can become a dominant midfielder in the future. Ihattaren is someone who we have been linked with before, maybe we could lure him to City and let him battle it out with Foden

I think there are a lot of options that would suit us better than Aouar. His numbers going forward are too bad to play as an 8 (3 goals 3 assists in the french league), and he's too weak defensively to play as a 6. If he's signed to just recycle and retain posession we might as well keep gundogan and wait for someone like Brandt/Barella/Ihattaren/Odegaard/Lo celso to become available

We can throw out a bunch of names, but you also have to remember the situation we have with UEFA. Although we are confident, we really don't know what CAS will ultimately decide. So we don't know who we can get in a years time. If Aouar is willing to come knowing our situation it may be a good idea to take him now. If the 2 year ban is upheld, next year Gundogan will be a year older and slower.
