Houssem Aouar

I might not have been clear enough as English is not my first language. I don't neccesarly think Aouar is a similar player to Phil and Bernardo, just that whatever Aouar offers Phil and Bernardo can do as well. Brandt and Aouar however are definitely similar players and play similar roles. They're both technical and smart ball playing midfielders. Both would be great in the LCM role, and both play LM from time to time (Brandt used to be a LM). However I don't believe Aouar offers anything too different to Gundogan, and I'm a bit sceptical to how he'd transition to PL football. Everytime I watch him he seems to take a lot of touches before he passes the ball whereas Brandt seems to be a much quicker thinker and plays those clever passes to teammates on the first touch instead. Brandt also plays more advanced passes that leads to goalscoring opportunities in my opinion as he has better vision than Aouar. He's still an engine just like Aouar, but that part of his game reminds me of KDB.

Aouar is a good player but personally I have a hard time seeing him becoming world class in the future like many believe. That is just my opinion. For example Gundogan who is a similar player type was a lot better than Aouar's current level when he was at that age. I think Brandt would be a better LCM in our system and Aouar would be a better deep lying playmaker

That is the thing though, In simple terms, YES Aouar is a very similar player to Bernardo and Phil. His skill set is a perfect mix of both of their attributes.

And a player similar to Phil and Bernardo is what we need for the LCM role

Aouar(CL vs. us last season) & Bernardo(LIV last season) can also play a double pivot role too.

Like I said before, it's all personal preferences, but the fact that Aouar is the player we are going after, points you in the logical direction.

Buying Aouar and binning Gundogan would be big improvement indeed. But cant see him binned, Aouar is signed as addition clearly rather than as replacement.

RMC Is pretty reliable source. Considering the price of at least €50m that means they will probably sell at €65m-€70m.

I'd describe him more as very similar player to Gundogan but with a dribbling ability that reminds me more of David. Of course he doesn't have near the passing range of David and Gundogan but he's like a hybrid of them so I can definitely see why Pep wants to get him. I'd prefer other targets that are a bit more creative and direct but it's 100% subjective. The prospect of Aouar coming to us is not really something that excites me but he's a decent player. I don't think he'll massively improve us and I'd want us to spend big money on CB and a CDM (to rotate with Rodri), but hopefully he proves me wrong

One of things when we play with David and Kev as #8's is that they are basically like a yin and yang. Kev's directness of passing is balanced out with Dave's intelligence of playing the simple ball. What you don't really want is two #8 who are trying to play slick passes all the time. It invites too much of an open game when you need to be methodical at times. Kev for all his great qualities is more prone to giving the ball away. Where people may think Dave/Gundo are slowing down the attack is what is needed at times.

We some have followed football for some decades, see that Aouar is close that we get to a Andres Inesta and maybe a Zidane type under right management.

id be happier if we could find a more direct replacement for Sane - someone with the same attributes.

Dont get me wrong, this lad looks good but we have similar players whereas with Sane we dont

Don't think this guy will be signed to play LW, more of a competitor to Foden. I'd look to sign a CB, CDM and Sané replacement before even thinking about Aouar to be honest. Gundogan is good enough to rotate with Phil as an 8 when Pep wants to have the ball and control the game
