How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

I’ve just seen Simon Calder, travel expert, talking about the need for the British passport to be checked and stamped when going in and out of the Schengen countries. It seems the UK government insisted on this!
I think this is part of the ‘us and them’ siege mentality and isolationism that this ludicrous govt. are trying to engender.
They know there are huge problems coming down the track with the NI protocol and lack of customs checks - now with the huge and growing amount of money we owe.
They are trying to shore up their perceived vote-winning anti-Europe stance by isolation and blame.
Make life difficult for you and blame it on them.

I wish the Vulcan would fuck off.
I’m forever struck by how the expression ‘Project Fear’ is used and reused. It was coined by Rob Shorthouse against the Scottish Independence movement but then adopted by them against the Better Together campaign. Johnson then used it in the Brexit referendum, but we now have Redwood using it against Sunak who himself campaigned for Brexit! In terms of utility, it’s the Alan Harper of political slogans.

I'd never heard of a Brexit Spartan until sue ellen opened her gob last week. Apparently it means that special faction of the Cons, including sue, steve "serial killer vibes" baker, his lordship of smug etc that wanted the "harshest" possible Brexit.

She wanted to wear this like a badge of her Brexit zealotry in which right wing bigot could piss up the wall the highest.

Willing to inflict economic chaos, uncertainty, lower living standards, national humiliation on us. Disproportionately on the poorest of us as they take our legal rights away as an afterthought and condemn future generations to poverty and a dearth of opportunity.

Don't think the bills will be too onerous for sue ellen, Mogg or those brave tubthumpers of the ERG.

Hope they, like the people in Dover are happy today. Caught a snippet of the news the journos were saying it was all to do with Covid. The sports press are utterly transparent in how they treat our Club with contempt, I'm starting to see the rest aren't much different.

It was the fact we insisted on 3rd country status after we left, combined with the rules on dealing with 3rd countries that we helped to draft while we were members. We got what we voted for.

That's how it feels - they know there is an insoluble problem without one side (at least) backing down, but careering towards a breaking point where a decision actually has to be made.
By acting first, the UK govt will claim that it's the EU trashing the GFA, and not them.

It's a fairly insane strategy for international politics.

No need to qualify any of this govts. actions with ‘insane’

Not true.
It is a requirement for all non Schengen countries.

as in this?

If you tried to describe what we have done to ourselves to a Martian they would declassify us as 'intelligent life forms' and put us in the 'single cell primative pond life' category.
Next to amoeba.
If I wasn't such a lazy bastard I would be organising insurrection on the streets. (non violent of course).
I will never, ever forgive these bastards.
Look around.
You see the chaos in Dover.
The boarded up high st. shops.
School kids going to school hungry.
Their parents who cannot afford to clothe and feed them and themselves.
Sky high inflation.
Highest cost of living in memory.
Businesses unable to find suitable staff at affordable wages.
Fuel prices through the roof.
The lies of brexit.
The shame of the Rwanda farce.
Record numbers of families in poverty.
Record numbers of billionaires in Britain.
Huge amounts of public money squandered on fraud and dodgy PPE. and test & trace.
Food banks for hospital staff.
Then you look at the pantomime of a leadership struggle and at those involved in it and none of the above is a surprise.
You’re right.
Never forgive these bastards.
And never forget.

IMHO people who voted Brexit did with their hearts, and the not entirely inaccurate feeling that the E. U is an ever expanding gravy train for nationally failed politicians and unelected bureaucrats, (the accounts have not been signed off for years, expenses are claimed without receipts, try that with HMRC ect.) It was inevitable that it would be made as difficult as possible to leave, to discourage others. Going with your heart should be understood by any City supporter from before the mid noughties, as it was just, a some would say, an irrational feeling, to continually support City.
I think all the complaining about the result is very Dipperesque, "if only things were different we would have won",ect.
Just for the record I was a remainder, and as previously said , was closer than 93'20 was to moving to France to join up with some of my family before Brexit ended that.

^Reasonable post for my money... I hope it's another example of the dialogue getting better going forward.

For us, one thing. For the kids.... maybe another.

Plenty of time for me to reflect over the last four years. And the same voice keeps coming back with the same answer.

Your heart, your love, is supposed to lead you to thinking about their opportunities.

Emotions cloud that. Let's be positive tho. As long as people keep talking... the longer we have to accept reality as it happens - rather than fight over what might be.... the opportunity will be there for us as a country to make many things better.

I agree that this has been ‘ footballised’ more is the pity.
Maybe those that vote for politicians with their ‘hearts’ need to engage their brains a little more. It’s not football. Complaining about the ruination of our nation is hardly ‘dipperesque’. Particularly when those in charge refuse even to acknowledge there is a problem.
