How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

Seeing as the Scots would want to be crossing our Border more than we would theirs it would be a massive headache for them. Let’s be realistic, the EU are not interested in the Scots without the English as it’s such a tiny market, about the size of Greater Manchester ?

Oh dear.....

For some strange reason you seem to think that New Zealand (approx the same size and population but with less industry) can survive but Scotland cannot.

English exceptionalism at its finest.

The Parliament has recently urged the Council to open negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia, whose combined populations are smaller than that of Scotland, so I suspect size would be irrelevant.

There would be difficulties in Scotland rejoining, of course, but nothing insurmountable.

Not to you, maybe, but they do to most others.
But realistically they don’t do they. They give false hopes and none of them ever deliver. Whilst we live in a Global Society we are always going to be more influenced by events that we have little control over. I could very quickly make a list of events that have changed my life over the years but I cannot think of anything done by any Political Party which would get on to the list. There are just too many of us to keep happy.

Q. If Scotland do get independence and join the EU, would that give the rest of the UK another headache with another border to cross?
England and Wales created all the headaches by voting Leave. So, yes it would, but it would hasten the calls to ditch this disastrous little Englander enterprise and get back into the EU.

I haven’t got the figures to hand for England obviously but I would take an educated guess and say they would dwarf those figures that “ if we could just” posted. It’s comments like from the Irish Prime Minister who said a hard Border would kill the Irish Economy as most of their Trade passes to or through England. It would be the same for Scotland. If we put Border Controls in and high Tarriffs your not telling me theEconomy wouldn’t collapse. The Boss of the old RBS and other Service Industries have also said they would move their Head Offices out of Scotland if they vote independence. I also fail to see why the Scots struggle in preventing migration south for better opportunities if all is so rosy in the Garden as you make out. Finally the Scots get subsidised per head of population by the UK Government far morethan the English do and always have. Don’t get me wrong, I am not putting an argument together for Scotland staying in the UK. They can do as they please, not bothered either way. Just don’t expect to Cherry Pick the bits you want to keep and discard the rest. Life’s not like that as the EU clearly pointed out to the U.K.

The EU opened negotiations with Turkey about 20 years ago on joining and that’s as far as they have got so far so I wouldn’t hold your breath

You see that’s the whole problem. If the English show any sort of Nationalism or stand up for our Country we get labelled little Englanders. Yet when the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish do the same it’s a different story. They get the label Patriots. Crazy.

Turkey’s population is larger than any EU country, and it is culturally and geographically extremely different from most EU countries, so its accession was always fanciful.

Scotland was an integrated EU member and would be fully and comparatively swiftly reintegrated were it an independent applicant.
