How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

We, as in all of us as we can see that neither party will do anything about it.
Correct. Labour will kick it well in to the long grass after the Get Brexit Done winner at the last election. Their core vote love any labour shortages as it will increase their wages and their rights. No Johnny Foreigner undercutting them anymore.

For someone so apathetic towards any form of politics, he sure posts a lot of strong opinions,
I never said I wasn’t interested, I just don’t let it get involved in my decision making as to how I run my life. Anyway I thought that was what this sub site is all about. Nobody’s getting abusive and I am trying to get the 10-1 rule to be a bit closer.

Apathetic doesn’t mean disinterested.

You've managed to ringfence yourself to limit any damage politicians can cause.

Most people can’t afford a mortgage these days, let alone save up. Their pensions have been decimated too.

Me in the amount I have paid in Tax and NI over the years
No. You were paying for the pensions then. There's no national pension pot.

It's the success of the welfare state. Pensions calculated on life expectancy, but taking old people out of poverty means they live longer, until there are more retired people than workers to pay the pension. Then young people can't afford (or don't want) children and, without immigration, population declines and there are even fewer workers to pay your pension.

Likewise, why is the NHS in trouble? Because people live so long. Why are people living longer? Because of the NHS.

Hmm interesting. I don’t recall the EU ever saying they would be swiftly integrated, from memory it was they would have to start again.
You omitted 'comparatively'.

Considerable water has flowed under the bridge since 2014 when the EU could not have foreseen the events of 2016. In 2014, it would have been harder to accommodate Scotland as swiftly because it would have technically seceded from the European Union by leaving the United Kingdom, which would have fanned the embers in the Basque, Catalan, and Flemish communities. Barroso never said that Scotland's application would be rapid but the EU never ruled it out.

The EU could now face an application from a people that was dragged out against its wishes, so purely in terms of upholding democracy, it would be more than welcome. In 2022, the geopolitical situation was also markedly different, which is another reason that would stand Scotland's future application in good stead.

The thread is about trying to find some benefit of Brexit. I think we've sussed that so long as you're alright, damaging the economy is fine.

Don't think it's correct the EU wouldn't want Scotland, I think they would do all they could to have an independent Scotland rejoin.
The border is another issue but let's face it the UK can't be trusted in anything it says at the moment so we wait for a somewhat trustworthy government to come to your country.
The EU isn't an all benevolent entity, it makes fuck ups like any administration but on the whole in my experience it is more trustworthy than most national parliments but it is still a political machine at the end of the day and they tend to want to grow as big as they can.
