How do we resolve the Brexit mess?

You see that’s the whole problem. If the English show any sort of Nationalism or stand up for our Country we get labelled little Englanders. Yet when the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish do the same it’s a different story. They get the label Patriots. Crazy.

I tried to point that very fact out but no, he doesn’t get it in fact, many on here, remainers seemingly salivate at the prospect of Scottish independence despite it being a mirror image of brexit with even far worse and deeper reaching repercussions for us all if it went through.

Strange old world….

I have never met or spoken to or heard about a Remainer who wasn't horrified at the prospect of the breakup of the United Kingdom. It was a central part of the Remain campaign.

I think with good reason there are a few in here whose hatred of the Tories is such, a Scottish vote for independance would be welcomed.

You can see the reasoning on these threads as they try to explain why it would work for them despite those reasons going against almost everything they said as to why brexit wouldn’t mate.

They called brexit correctly, they shouldn’t then do a 180 and get Scottish independence so badly wrong imo when it’s based on the exact same nationalism they despise so much.

It has similarities but I'm not sure it's a mirror image. If the Scots vote for independence now, having rejected it in 2014, it will still be largely because they appreciate that being in a union with 447 million people will be more rewarding in the long run than being in the current situation; the English and Welsh evidently envision a world quite different from the one envisaged in Scotland. I agree that it will be economically painful for all parties, but accession to the European Union will be a safety net that Scotland could be less sure of in 2014.

It's the English Brexiteers who have been most vocal in their support of Scottish independence because they see Scotland as a drain on England.

In general Remainers have commented that Scottish independence is much more likely as a result of Brexit but that is a long way from saying that they support it, and they tend to have more faith in the Scots to sort out their country than those that are dismissive about their future prospects without being part of the UK but being part of the EU.

It's ironic that many Union Jack flag shaggers don't seem to give a shit about the potential break up of the union as a result of Brexit.

Doubly so seeing as so many were simultaneously predicting that Brexit would be the first crack in the break up of the European Union. For a nation of tea drinkers, the ability to read the leaves has gone to pot! I blame the tea bag...

There are simply no guarantees of EU membership, none and only a guarantee of even further pain economically.

Happy to see whatever plan the SNP and EU has in place though?

Not this one and as for flag shaggers, it’s below you pal and again, never ever mentioned if it’s any other flag other than a Union Jack or a St George’s cross which is telling.

It wasn't a dig at you but there's no shortage of English Brexiteers that have repeatedly said that they don't give a fuck if Scotland leaves the union and many have been actively hoping for it to happen. It would be very odd for a proud Englishman living in Scotland to actively support Scottish independence.

I appreciate that, but do you believe that EU membership would be less likely or more likely this time?
The EU was understandably lukewarm ahead of the vote in 2014, but the world now is markedly different.

I'll be listening carefully to what is said in Brussels this time and comparing it with what was said then.
