How good were The Who

Born in 85 so there'll be a lot of people more educated than myself but they probably just squeeze into my personal top 5 of the 'Brit Invasion' bands from the mid 60's. That may initially sound quite insulting but the ridiculous amount of talent around that time I think it's quite the compliment.

Just been listening to some Kinks on the Sonos and they are one of my all time favourites.

Beatles, Stones and then down to personal preference I think.

Townshend never downloaded child porn.
He used a credit card to access a site that had it. Then canceled the transaction.

Strange behaviour. I knew well before he was arrested that he was publicly drawing a link between the Russian mafia and child pornographers and campaigning against it.

In his book he says he wanted to know for sure that these sites were profiting from child pornography.
People seem to be giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Is that why he accepted a police caution, rather than the other option, going to court ?

I find it strange how some pop/rock stars are vilified and their career is ruined and others, well, you know, that's how it was then.

The Who were one of my very first gigs. I was 15 seeing them at Belle Vue... 1975.
Original line up (Supported by Steve Gibbons Band, who I also saw support Lynyrd Skynyrd the year after) ... enjoyed it at the time, but for some reason, I never became a big fan. Some fantastic talent in there, Entwistle especially, but a lot of their songs, while I can appreciate how good they are, leave me cold.

I think a big stroke of luck for the Who were that The Kinks were earmarked for Woodstock but had got themselves banned from America(maybe this is folklore but I've read a few bits on it down the years) The Who went on to become(for me) the greatest live band of all time, how I wish I was old enough to see them in
their prime. A strange thing about the Who was that they sold millions upon millions of albums, yet only had one top 10 single in America(I can see for miles #9) out of 26 attempts, which I find staggering, especially in how popular they were. I've seen them post Entwistle and they were unbelievable, but I believe nothing compared yo the Ox and Moon the loon.

The Kinks were no1 for me. But the talent from the Invasion was amazing. Favourites are just a matter of taste tbh. I listen to The Who,Beatles, Stones, Small faces, The Hollies, The Animals etc but I'll listen to The Kinks at least 5 times more than the rest.

Absolutely love the Kinks and would only put the Beatles and Stones ahead of them due to the volume of work. It's with that reasoning why the Beatles will always be number one for me due to the amount of material they produced within a rather short 10 year period. The amount of songs not even released as A Sides etc puts them above all others.

Got some Spencer Davis Group on now. What a fucking time to be alive.
