How to bulk up?

Just so we're perfectly CLEAR, the juice and blended tuna/chicken comment was more of a off-the-cuff joke/remark as I thought the 'LOL' would indicate, that clearly wasn't understood by some.

Anyway, carry on, there are a few lads on Bluemoon who know their stuff on gaining muscular bodyweight, in particular and as mentioned, Fantasy Ireland is one of them, if you are going to take advice off anyone else on this thread you'll do well to take his, I'll leave you all to it now :-p.

Even though I'm relatively new to lifting, I'd disagree with you here Damo. Cardio isn't going to tear the same amount of muscle fibres as resistance training with heavy weights. Which in turn when replenished isn't going to lead to the same muscle growth.

Unless I understood your comment wrong?

Exactly what I mean, all of this is wrong or misleading.

No its not explain what is misleading in anything I have said?.

1. Speed of the reps doesn't matter. Cardio or building aren't opposites where you choose one.
2. Olive oil is a complete waste of money for somebody who doesn't have enough unless he's drinking shots of it, and this will give you the shit and dehydrate you.
3. He doesn't need to build strength if he's just trying to pack some muscle on, he can build straight away
4. The time you eat food has no bearing on how it is processed, eating before you wake or after you wake means nothing. There's no benefit to eating big before bed.
5. There's no such thing as fast or slow metabolisms, no such thing as good or bad genes based on his height and weight. You don't know anything about him to tell him about his DNA and how he will build fat. He might put it all on his stomach. He might not. You have no way of knowing.

1. Speed of rep matters, anyone who has trained for a long time will tell you that. When you are trying to lose weight you do light weights fast and as many reps as you can. This you also do when you are cutting. Slow reps with heavy weights are great for strength and muscle gains. (http://bendo13.hubpages.com/hub/How_Many_Reps_Should_You_Do_for_Strength)

2. Olive oil is recommended by dieticians as a great way to gain weight along with training. It is not very expensive either.

3. He does need strength being 6'2 and 11 stone means that he has a high metabolism as it is and doing light weights would be like cardio for him. He would get slimmer. To be able to lift heavy weights he needs strength.

4. Actually the time you eat food does have a bearing on how much you gain(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/8234386.stm). Infact speak to people that work out which is why when bulking it is recommended to have a meal or shake just before going to sleep.

5. He is 6'2 and 11 stone and there are differences in peoples metabolism. (http://homeschoolingonli.hubpages.com/hub/High-Metabolism)

I respect your intelligence Damo but some topics best to leave them alone because some actually do work out regularly and have helped others regarding this. This constant need to discredit me can make you seem less than knowledgeable when you make silly mistakes like your above statements.

Also he does not need any circuit training AT ALL.

It's just an easier way to get calories/macro's in Gstar, when you have to eat so often, it becomes a chore and/or some people simply just don't have the appetite or time for it mate.

PS, the tuna one is much less of an option and less popular these days due to the huge price increases over the last few years.

Just sort of a 'sick of chewing/short on time' solution.

Personally, I wouldn't do it, as it looked like he was drinking thick snot.

Cheers, and there was me expecting some kind of scienticif based explanation that having the foods blended into a liquid helped maximise absorbtion rates ;)<br /><br />-- 03 Feb 2012, 13:53 --<br /><br />

Do you think that's the most sensible response to a guy who clearly has issues about his physical appearance when the stats say he's a healthy weight? You a qualified doctor or dietician?

He has come here asking for advice on gaining weight so I think it is the perfect response. I think everyone in this thread has issues about their physical appearance which is why we are working to improve it. I am not a doctor nor a dietician but someone asks me a genuine question in a thread called "How to bulk up", I will give them an honest answer.

What part of "i think you're light for your height" is advice to gaining weight?

Absolutely mental suggestion i know, but anybody interested in this thread should probably part with £11 and buy this...

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Guide-Sports-Nutrition-Guides/dp/1408105381/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1328277464&sr=8-1-fkmr0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.amazon.co.uk/Complete-Guide- ... =8-1-fkmr0</a>

Covers everything, easy to understand. Used it when i studied Sports Nutrition few years ago. It's awesome, very well laid out and very easy to understand.

Its my opinion as he was asking what we thought.

The bit you said in bold was' "He has come here asking for advice on gaining weight so I think it is the perfect response"

Surely the 'perfect response' is to give the guy some sound advice on gaining weight?

Which I was doing in PM but then posted here but was then told that my advice was incorrect. The attack is not on the reponse nor the advice but the person giving it. Which is rather ironic as I am probably the most built person in this thread.

Such is life.
