The trains are a disgrace. I’ve had two journeys recently to Birmingham and Tamworth with cancellations, disruption etc.

They need huge reform.

Whilst I’m on my soapbox. What was that shit from Sunak…is this now elements of his election manifesto or just a series of headline grabbing sops to calm people down after the HS2 clusterfuck? Asearlier posters have stated a lot of what he has promised has already been promised and some for years. Some of the work promised is already underway.

He had an opportunity to allow us to ‘judge him on his actions’ (his words) promised in his five pledges - the boats and waiting times etc.

So he’s come to the position of power, elected by a tiny majority of his colleagues, promised integrity and honesty (titter) and made a series of promises that are falling round his ears and recently mad more u-turns than the scum have made on things like taxation and pension changes etc.

Anybody who is getting excited needs a reality check. If you want to know what might happen tomorrow look at the past.

The Tories may as well rebrand as the jam tomorrow party.

the cancellation also means no spur to link to the East Midlands railway

the Old Oak Common-Euston link will only happen if they get enough external investment (so non-government sources) - this seems quite a lot different from the announcement. Even then, it'll be 6 platforms not the 11 originally planned.

govt source told them "all funding allocated will be re-allocated". Questions made it clear that a lot of that 36 bn is future funding and doesn't exist to be reallocated today - and no, they won't say how much there is today.

Plus obviously that Clifton thing and the Manchester airport tram link which already exist.

As a case study in shambolic, misleading or downright inaccurate announcements, this is snowballing spectacularly. You'd think that it wasn't thought through carefully.

Wait till Parliament announce that the Houses of Parliament refurb will cost c£15b (2022 figures). All Parties are lying very low on this one. It’s under cross Party consideration and another giant land mine for the next elected gvmt.
They could move the whole clown show up North to Birmingham and show that they are serious about levelling up.

I think because the idea of parliamentary democracy or in fact any semblance of actual governance is of no interest to this bunch. There's a culture of entitlement where I think they genuinely believe they can do whatever the fuck they like, as if the UK is their private property, and they are actually offended when someone challenges them. The arrogance in the way some of the decisions are made is breathtaking. Beyond HS2, the education reforms will be a steaming pile of shit in large part because of the way they've been concocted.

At the point when we allowed a man who quite openly had no interest in serving anyone but himself to become PM we endorsed a terrible trend and it's now open season.

The next government is not only going to inherit a shitshow of Himalayan proportions. It's going to have to try and resurrect some basic concepts around public service and holding office that have been flushed down the toilet.
