Hughes Needed More Time

"Right lads its Spuds tonight and they've got a shit hot right winger who's going to be the main thrust of their attack, so we need a cunning plan.."

"Got it, we'll play a 35 yr old left back and put Robbie in front of him for protection"

Tactical genius me..

Hughes was in fact given too much time. He should have been replaced in May or June.

Agreed. What everyone seems to have forgotten from that time was the rampant press speculation about him getting fired. The owners very professionally made a statement at the start of the summer that they were backing him which allowed him to get on with the job without the papers on his back. He got given a second chance and cocked it up.

yes thats a great idea, but a better one would be, not to double up on one of the fastest and most difficult wingers to play against on his day.

I have not read the whole thread so this might be a bit off topic. I am curious to see what Hughes' legacy will be in a few years.

I can see many looking back with a bit of gratefulness at a manager who steered us to some decent results and some great nights (we have owned Arsenal, the home leg of the Hamburg tie, etc). Ireland became a revelation, at least for a season, SWP returned home and Bellamy proved many wrong. Hughes handled himself extremely well during the Tevez saga and many were proud of the way he 'won' the war of words with Fergie. Our first semifinal in the lifetime of many blues.

The other side of the coin is the horrible away record of last year. Dropping so many points to so many terrible teams. In the drop zone around Christmas. Conceding goals in the final minutes of games. The crazy string of draws this year. Head-scratching substitutions. And so on.

I hope people remember both sides when the line is finally drawn in permanent ink under his tenure at City. I will be grateful for his service but hopefully enjoying better times! I can't wait for the Mancini era to begin on Saturday.

You know, I think he will go down in the same kind of way as the last guy to get us to a SF(and F)John Bond, not loved, but not really hated somewhere in the middle.
