I am not doing any kind of trumps game , schoffields daughters stopped him comitting suicide when the stuff came out about him , neither should be using their depression as a reason for doing wrong , it does a diservice to the millions with clinical depression who dont do risky behaviour

I was equally appalled to the treatment of PS for similar reasons as I felt he was on the edge of self harm (didn’t realise his daughter had stopped him but that only echos what I thought).

They and others on here are making out that the age difference is a major issue yet they are happy to have a sixteen year old on page three which I’m quite sure excited vast swathes of ageing and elderly men .

Not only that Phil but what's most despicable in terms of the behaviour of the Sun's hacks is their eagerness to heap huge pressure on to a person they know to have suffered crippling bouts of mental illness during his life. I'd call it bullying but that term doesn't come close to describing the habitual cruelty of Murdoch and his lackeys.

I think The Sun are going to have some major issues when this settles. They went full out with allegations as fact which was very quickly dialled back and the language used then changed significantly.

Huw Edwards is getting pelters from plenty of people. When Schofield originally came out, he got a lot of sympathy for being brave, etc, but there was always an underlying story with that, and that was that the younger bloke he'd had an affair with was probably going to go public so Schofield's hand was effectively forced into him coming out.

I don't think people are necessarily excusing any perceived inappropriate behaviour by blaming it on mental health - it's possible to have mental health issues and behave inappropriately and for those to be 2 separate issues, or they could be connected. Either way, if you've got a problem with Huw Edwards tapping up younger people then surely you have a problem with Philip Schofield doing the same....

Fair enough - you just seem to be a lot more defensive of Schofield than of Edwards

Reading between the lines on this the wording of his wife’s statement leads me to think he’s been sectioned after self harm - you simply don’t go in to hospital for inpatient treatment for the foreseeable future just because you’re depressed.

Obviously can’t say for sure but probably best to not get into depression/mental health top trumps.
