Hyde Road Stadium

I think some of the keepers wore caps which makes sense but I dont think any of the outfield players did? mind you it seems Billy Meredith ran around with a toothpick in his mouth & I am sure my grandad told me one of citys keepers wore glasses years ago!

Oh keepers wore caps in the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century. That I'm sure of — Bonetti did, for one. Come to think of it, Cech wore a sort of scrum cap for years.
I've always wondered whether that wasn't a sort of legend about Meredith.

Keepers wearing caps seems to be something thats gone out of the game recently, It would be interesting to know if Meredith did have a toothpick while playing & I did a quick search and it seems it was James Mitchell was the keeper who wore glasses in the 1920s :-)

How can you say navy socks look proper City when no blue alive remembers them. It's because haven't worn navy socks for over 120 years!
We wore navy socks from 1894-1951. And also wore navy socks from 1987-1993, 1997-2003 and in 2018-19.

We have worn navy socks by far the most of any sock colour in our history… 70 years with navy socks, compared to 44 years with sky socks, 8 years with white socks, 2 years with royal blue with red turnovers and 1 year with black. That combo that a lot of people think is classic City - Sky socks with maroon turnovers - we’ve only had for 7 years in our history.

Often thought we should just settle for blue shirts, white shorts and navy socks - and stick to reinterpretations of that each year…. I dislike blue shorts and white socks etc….

I have this picture that’s been colour enhanced of the 1903-04 City Hyde Road team - who very nearly went on to win the First Division and FA Cup double (although the FA Cup win and celebrations probably stopped us winning the league a few days later as we lost to Everton where a win could have won us the title as well) that season - outside the Grand Hotel.

I don’t think that Grand Hotel is the city centre Grand Hotel on Aytoun Street. Looks more like a pub.
That photo is amazing!!

Anyone know the exact location of the photo @GaryJames ?

They are City’s true colours:

Sky shirts
White shorts
Navy socks

We should never have diverted from that and it annoys me that we ever did.

One of the only things I admire about United is that they nearly always stick with their red shirts, white shorts and black socks combo (although strangely not in Europe where they wear white socks and it doesn’t look anywhere near as good).

I love the contrast of the Sky shirts and navy socks. Always thought it looks ‘proper City’!
Nearly a perfect post..........but
