I Know It’s Over

November 2020, we were EIGHTH.

May 2021, we won the title with games in hand.

Stop with this fucking horseshit. Stop ingesting idiotic social media that tells you every single thing needs a massive overreaction. We lost to a good team. We played badly. We miss the best attacking and defensive mid in the world.
This is the stat i was looking for. Thankyou

It's totally different this season
Our best players are knackered.
A lack of creativity and clever play now Mahrez and Gundogan have left
If Haaland doesn't score we struggle
Three centre midfielders, bought over the last season and a half, that Pep doesn't trust

This season is about securing top 4 and giving the CL a good go, but at the moment we really don't look like we could beat an egg

Is it?

We were playing competitive games from the season before in August due to the Covid stoppage.

We were running the double pivot back then and looking clueless. There's a story that Pep went to Sorrano and Txixi saying we needed to rip everything up and start fresh, birthing the false 9 and more importantly unlocking false 9 Gundo.

David Silva had just left, and we hadn't really filled the Leroy Sane gap.

We have new players who are taking time to acclimatise to the system (Phillips not included, I genuinely just don't believe he's what we require of a pivot mid)

I just have faith that as long as we haven't left ourselves a massive mountain to climb, we're OK. And we haven't, we've eased through the UCL group and we're 2 games back after 15.

It's not perfect, but we're OK.

Teams are no longer relying on trying to keep the score down by mass defence. The pressing has improved technically, and physically. As was to be expected.Villa displayed a level of confidence that was above any we have faced for a long time. Quite a shock to see a City team panicing and just booting it anywhere, like last night. The boot well and truly on the other foot, as understandably, we are used to inflicting that on the opposition.
Painful, mainly because it was not a blip, more a continuation of a run of form below our standard. Tieing it to a single factor is wrong, imo, saying the club "let players go", we should have bought so-and-so, every-one's shit etc. is as predictable as night follows day. At our best, we have a rhythm and pace that needs a settled team, with only minor changes, to maintain. We have not had that this season. It's the "why" that is the bone of contention on BM.

Agreed.

It's always "we've lost this player, we need to sign 3/4 new guys". It's "shiny new toy" syndrome. People enjoy transfer rumours more than games.

For sure, last night was bobbins from Pep and the team. And the recent run has been bobbins too, unnecessarily throwing away points like confetti.

But there are 20+ games to go over the next five months. Anything could happen.

It's a two-game turnaround for us to get back on top. Anything could happen between now and next May.

I never played for a coach who didn't expect me to play for the full 90 minutes, no matter what the score was, no matter how much of a beating the team might be taking. You play to the end. You never give in.

Let's keep in touch with 'The Champions 23/24 versions 1 and 2 already' (aka Arsenal and Liverpool) and get everyone fully fit and performing with that single-mindedness we all know the squad has. Then let's see how the mop flops at the end of January.

ANYTHING could happen over the next five months. NEVER give in.

We have as we don't have a good enough squad to win the Prem. We know that Pep likes to work with a small, high quality squad. Well we have 50% of this requirement

One half decent opponent in our CL group who we struggled to get past at home

I'm certain other bluemooners will read this and be thinking "at least we're not in the second division, or struggling for PL survival, so be grateful for what you have." Which is correct and I am. But it doesn't take away from the fact that we're not winning the PL this season and we are in a real dogfight to secure a top four finish

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a True Blue, my son!

Exactly, nobody's going to be happy with our recent run of results but the overreaction is ridiculous. What next on the Match Thread, an outbreak of Dancing Plague??

Playing 4-4-fucking-2 might just be the answer.
