International Friendlies 21st-28th March

I am Extremely fearful that England are going to come home with 2 points at most from the group stage.

It is the fault of VAR then, because the referee initially gave a corner, and so must have been told to review it.
There in lies the problem for me,either the ref asks for a review or gets the word over what to review, seems to be the ideal way to influence a game to me. Never a penalty either Ref had made the correct decision which not one Italian player objected to then bingo penalty.

Law 12: A direct free kick is awarded if a player commits any of the following offences against an opponent in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
  • charges
  • jumps at
  • kicks or attempts to kick
  • pushes
  • strikes or attempts to strike (including head-butt)
  • tackles or challenges
  • trips or attempts to trip
If an offence involves contact it is penalised by a direct free kick or penalty kick.

I’m not convinced that the challenge could have been described as careless, reckless or using excessive force, so I don’t see how a foul can be given, especially as football is a contact sport.

For me he trod on his foot because the Italian player was going down. I'm not sure you can penalise Tarkowski for that. Yes there was contact but it doesn't constitute a foul for me. He was going down before the contact and the ball had run well away from him anyway. There's an argument young pulled him before the contact on the foot, which caused him to go down. Would be interesting to hear which part of the incident the penalty was given for.

Whether you think it was a pen or not, the one thing the contact on the foot did not do was stop the Italian from shooting. He was going down at 45 degrees and the ball had ran away from him some 6 foot, by the time the contact was made. He was never getting a shot off, contact or not!

Ok then, if that happens on the half way line is it a foul? How many times do you see strikers going round a keeper and the angle is really tight keeper clips his leg and penalty given, and if sergio was in the box against the dippers in cl quarters and that happened and ref waved play on you would be calling the ref a bent cun*

No, if it happens anywhere else same thing applies. The Italian is going down already, the Burnley lad does nothing other than continues his run and as the Italian goes down he accidentally treads on him. No difference where ever it is on the pitch. No offence committed by Tarkowski.

your example of the strikers is completely different. If the keeper clips him it's a penalty clearly. However if the striker is going down first and draws the contact then clearly no penalty. If the latter was Sergio then it wouldn't be a pen.

If the Italian had kept on running his leg wouldn't have been in the vicinity to be trod on, I wouldn't say he instigated it as such, but it's never a foul for me. An accidental coming together!
