Ireland is the player we need at this club.

Ireland has had the odd off season that is true, but remember what he could achieve when he was on top form. People seem to have short memories. On this very forum people were praising him for his new fitness regime and saying how much it has improved him as a player now it is to his detriment and he should sort his head out.
Under Hughes' managment he was told to rein himself in and be more defensive as a player, this is totally against the grain for a player like him. He has always been an attacker of the ball. He could be the box to box midfielder we were looking for.
I agree that our signings are making our club better, but I still think Stevie Ireland (at only 24yrs) could be a diamond in the rough.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, Stephen Ireland is a football genius. All he needs is a little bit of nurturing and he has the potential to be one of the best players the premier league or the world has ever seen.

I mean every bit of that hand on heart, I believe in superman. Just waiting for the sequel, Superman Returns............

What are you going on about

Best player the world has ever seen, fuck me he's not fit to lace the boots of players like van basten, Pele, Ronaldo, Messi

He has talent but believe me if he was as good as you think he is he wouldnt be at City anymore, would of gone in the poor days

Anytime i see Ireland he just seems like he couldn't be bothered, jogging at half pace all the time, passes the ball like its made out of lead. Its not that he slows the game down its that he himself is too slow and too casual all the time.

I thought that there were some encouraging signs last night in his play and I think City should definitely keep him for next season. The talent is there and playing with Silva and Yaya could bring the best out of him....it was interesting to see how well Ireland gelled with Robinho in the past.

You are trying to imply my naïvety. I don't really think so, Ireland has all the raw skills and attributes to get to that level of football. It's just whether he has the mental fortitude to get there and more importantly stay there.
A bit big headed of you to suggest what you did about me just because i disagree with you isn't it? hmmmmmm

interesting that you didn't deny it though. let's just agree to disagree eh.
but seriously, potential to become one of the greatest players 'the world has ever seen'? even his ardent supporters will struggle to believe that.

Haha, I wasn't dodging the question mate I'm 20 but really don't consider myself young as such but I guess you've been there and seen it all. Perhaps I was exagerating. The fact remains though he is a player with a lot of potential if he'll fulfill it I really don't know but I think it's worth taking a risk on him and giving him one more season.

Put it this way I'd rather have the potential class of Ireland then the workhorse like "Mr average" Milner anyday. At least when Ireland had his "one season wonder" he scored 13 goals from open play and didn't score half of his goals from penalties like Milner...

Disagree,

I want to win something and his place could be occupied by a world class player instead, Ireland has been so poor for the past 12 months and should be let go.
A world class player like James "One season wonder" Milner. Yeah good one.

Is that a joke? Milner has been steadily improving since he was 15. Even two seasons ago I'd still name him as one of my favourite players in the Premiership. Excellent player, has a big future.

Anyway, Ireland is a City player. I honestly believe that every single City fan wants him to prove everybody wrong, go out there and be a top, top player; a talisman for us perhaps. He seems to realise that he needs to work hard in training though this doesn't seem to have been translated to success on the pitch in the past.

You cannot play somebody who isn't playing well. If they need a few games to get back up to speed, they're in serious trouble, City don't have the time to allow a half fit player to lose us games with the league being so tight.

That said, Stevie has the potential to be a genius and everybody recognises that. It's the gap between his potential and his current ability which is the problem.

I can't see Ireland staying, simply because he seems to understand that at 23, this is really a time where he needs to be playing regularly. Mancini will not play somebody who he doesn't trust to perform well, and unless he impresses this pre-season, he'll be out. This is a HUGE pre-season for a few City players, and Ireland is one of them.

science can't suss why he come over all dizzy...and he's got form for pork-pieing..reminds me of the Scorpion and the toad parable.
