Exactly how is it he is being fucked over? He don't feature in Mancini's plans for the future so he is being sold, he was rewarded with a new bumper contract year before last has been great for one season and mostly indifferent before that, last season was a really poor one for him through injuries and lack of form. He lost his place under Hughes and when he got his chance under Mancini he didn't take it most blame it on an inability for stevie and tevez to play in the same team as they like to play in more or less the same areas of the pitch, with silva now being added to the squad and millner brought in I don't think anybody would argue that Ireland would be behind all these players in mancini's plans so he is being sold, best thing for both parties and if anything Ireland seems to be quite lucky that he has got to go to villa considering what seems to be the clubs policy of not selling to rivals, if millner were not part of this deal he would most likely have been loaned out or sold to a worse team. To be honest I think it is also irelands inability to play in multiple positions has counted against him wouldn't be used as a second striker with the forward talent we have now and he has never been able to play right wing as he constanly came inside to his natural position leaving us short on the right and a part of the fault for a few goals against us. He did love the club and the fans but expectations have raised and although it is a pity most of our academy players will no longer make the first team for a while but before with Ireland and swp they were expected to be playing in a midtable team as we were then not a championship winning team, that generation of academy players will take a few years now which we have already seen the beginning of being set in motion with the overseas academies. So thanks stevie for the memories and hope you do well in the future.

I support man city not stephen ireland. Daft posts like that make me want him to fail.

The league should apologize. They cost us Superman with their 25 man roster limit.

That's who I'm pissed at right now, not the management forced to make hard choices to conform with the absurd rule.

agree with most of your points... Ireland is a favorite with me too... 3 last home shirts with his name on... but i think mancini has a point in that Ireland needed to get out of his comfort zone and change team to get back to where we know he is capable of... I hope the very best for him and wish him good luck!

Ireland had the chances to impress Mancini but he didn't take them, that's not the managers fault.

But again, I have to ask. So who goes off so that Ireland can stay?

If you were Mancini, a man tipped to lose his job by Christmas if he doesn't perform well, would you keep an underperformer in the hopes he performs?

I never wanted to get rid of Ireland, but the twat league rules made us trim the roster to 25 men. You have to understand Mancini's fears considering how much pressure he is under, and the fact that he probably would have kept Ireland had there not been a 25 man restriction.

This maybe the kick up the backside Ireland needs. maybe the OP didn't see him last season but I don't remember him having a single good game for Hughes or Mancini. I don't know what went wrong, because we know he has the talent, but with the 25 man squad what were we to do? Give him a place and dispose of another player in the hope that he would come good?

I hope he does well at Villa. Nothing is guaranteed of course, but based on what we know it makes City a far stronger team. Having seen the highlights of last weekend, Milner was exactly the type of player we needed.

Yeah I tend to agree. When Mancini arrived I felt he could be the ideal man to develop Ireland given the style of player Mancini himself was, but alas it's not played out that way. I think in the end this may be the right move for both City and Stevie.

Both good players. Thats the only type of player we trade in now. Ireland found it hard to fit into the system Mancini wanted to play and deserved a move rather than to be left out of the side. Milner is a much more flexible player who our manager obviously feels fits into the system he intends to play, and I'm delighted we've signed him. Obviously the fee is rather large, but more often than not that is the case when we have bought from English clubs (Santa Cruz, Lescott, etc). I wish Ireland the best of luck at Villa, and think both players will be huge assets to their new clubs.

Personally i am gutted that he has gone but i can see why Mancini would want him gone because quite frankly he aint done it. PErsonally i think the deal is a crap one for us - Villa now have a decent sum of money and can bring in a few players to strengthen their team - personally a deal too far but that aint Milners fault and a s a City player he gets my support.

What i am most disapointed / pissed off about can be summed up by the Mr Potatoe Head / Stevie picture and forcing him to train with the reserves - deserved better - deserved better easier to ask him to stay at home or do some indoor work.

Footballer earn what footballer earn - but dont mean they should be treated like shite because of it.

Totally. Now that we're the richest club in the world and can blow anyone out of the water for any player we want, why should we be even remotely sentimental about someone who's been at City since he's 13 years old and has played countless first team performances. Fuck that. In fact, lets shut the academy down. We don't fucking need it. Academies are for the poor no mark clubs like Villa and Neverton who will never have our wealth and the ability to pop into Europe and by the best of the best, cream of the crop, etc.

Look if Mancini has decided that he's not going to be part of his senior squad then he shouldn't be in the 1st team training sessions. Managers have to make tough decisions, and based on what I saw last season I'd have done the same. In an ideal world with no 25 man squad rule we'd have kept him, but then again would Villa have sold us Milner? They needed a player, because without a manager, and with Lerner keeping some of the cash, they might struggle to get a replacement in.

Right, firstly, can we get over this bollox of the way Ireland was treated? It was he that haggled for £2m, isnt he paid handsomely enought to just move? Secondly, he has had 1 good season - ever. Hardly someone deserving of the tag 'Superman'.
There is no doubt that we have bought a much better player - of the same age - than Ireland.
He was given his chances when Mancini took over, but I will never forget the Cup match at home to Stoke when Ireland merely walked all game and was not interested. That is hardly the demeanour of a player that should have been trying to bust a gut to impress the manager. From that day, I have been willing to drive him anywhere to any other club, as I would have done prior to his 'player of the year' season. As would most people walkig away from CoMS.
Ireland is someone who plays when the mood takes him but that isnt often enough if this club wants to go places.
 
i like ireland,but what he did in the derby when he couldnt be arsed to track back that with that ginger twat i lost all respect for him !

There was no need to do that - tell him to stay at home or do some fookin gym work like Robinio apparantly is - its not the fact he was sold over that it the fookin manner - that picture sums it up for me and i and many many other City fans feel the same - you dont thats fine but can you honestly say you dont feel even a little bit embarassed by that picture.

One final thing football is cyclic and being arrogant obnixious bastards on the way up whic is what many posters on here have become only means a bigger kicking on the way down. Humility fella that is all i ask and comparing the treatment of Ireland to Mascherano / Milner by their respective clubs is day and night.
