I believe alot of people became disillusion with the lad when he blamed Hughes for his lack of form, when in the previous season he was praising and applauding him for helping him to become a better a player. He seems to be more than willing to blame his shortcomings on other people.

Just to get one thing straight, he didnt directly blame hughes and watch the full interview before you talk about the content as all articles are not a fair reflection, his arguement for years was he was played out of position, he praised hughes for playing him in position for an extended period of time last year, this interview he said he was played out of position and it didnt help his performances..simple as that and we all know this is the case with him,

It wasnt as if he said hughes was a bad manager ect, and the articles also go on to say he had found his rythm and freedom playing under mancini although he had only played 1 or 2 games, complete creative journalism

it has nothing to do with sentiment

it has everythignt o do with being able to see the talent this lad has and being able to get the best out of him (by any means)......Ireland when played in his best position is a force to be reckoned with (ie just behind the main striker)....RM at present isnt playing this way....now with his own team of players it will be very interesting to see how RM does set up....will it be a 4-4-2 where there is no room for Ireland unless he adapts his game or will it be (as some people have suggested on here a while back) that he has a favoured 4-2-3-1 approach or even a 4-3-3 approach...both of which ireland i think can fit into.

Im not disagreeing irelands form dipped this season (due to whatever resasons and the change of manager certainly was one of them...but there are others)......However Ireland can be top class and if nurtured the right way could be a huge player for us

I just hope that RM can see what a lot of city fans can see and doesnt get rid of him.......

Well if you really watch City you will notice Tevez practically plays in this posistion now, is about 4x the player of ireland and just scored 30 goals in the season. So why would RM play Ireland when he already has someone there pretty much running the team single handedly!!

at present you are correct...tevez is fullfilling that role and played exceptionally well...this is why i put that maybe SI needs to adapt the way he plays....however there is no reason why ireland cannt play int he hole behind tevez as well

He played there vs Portsmouth and was shite, a perfect game where he could've taken advantage of the situation and he ballsed it up. Kinda kills your theory there my friend.

not realy fair to judge on one game and i also did put that his form has noticeably dipped in this last season...but typical city fans are always out for new boo boy

however the season prior to that he was played in his preferred role and got fans player of the season so that kind of backs up my theory really doesnt it!

Are city fans really always out for this? - i mean more than fans of any other club are (???)

I think all this talk about his preferred role or his best role is a bit of a red herring - fact is, if he was good enough for our future first 11, he would have shown a lot more for us, regardless of where he was playing in the front 6 positions.

IMO Ireland and Robinho worked very well together.......maybe our manager needs to do some good managing and get the best from the players at his disposal.
Robinho should be a striker, not left winger (Brazil will show how to play him) we should find a place for Ireland in an alternative central midfield combo, Barry doesn't seem to see Ireland in acres of space!!!!

Manchester City have made their first inquiries to ascertain Mikel Arteta's availability from Everton as a replacement for Stephen Ireland after the unsettled midfielder made a transfer request.

Ireland's request to leave Eastlands after a frustrating season in which his form has deteriorated and the manager, Roberto Mancini, has said he needs to "change his head" has been reluctantly accepted and moves are under way to find another creative player for central midfield.

Arteta ticks the right boxes, although City's interest in him dates back to when Mark Hughes was manager and an approach was made last summer. The 28-year-old Spaniard has two years remaining on his contract and City are aware Everton would try to repel any advances, particularly after losing Joleon Lescott in the same direction last summer, a transfer saga that lasted several months and caused substantial damage to the relationship between the clubs.

City, nonetheless, are weighing up whether to turn their interest into an offer in excess of £20m and can possibly offer Ireland in a player-plus-cash exchange.

Ireland's unhappiness stems from what he perceives to be his marginalisation since Mancini took over from Hughes and his belief that he would not be regarded as an automatic first-team pick if he were to stay at the club where he was voted player of the year two seasons ago.

There have been concerted efforts behind the scenes to convince him that he still has a lot to offer and that, in reality, Mancini has included him in a lot of big games, but the player is said to have taken the last few months very badly and has come to feel that he is no longer wanted.

He has not played a full 90 minutes since the 2-0 defeat of Portsmouth on 31 January and, though that can be partly explained by some injuries, he takes football so seriously and is renowned for being so sensitive when things are not going well his transfer request was partly expected behind the scenes.

City's wish-list no longer includes Liverpool's Fernando Torres after City failed to qualify for the Champions League but they have put in place an £11m deal for Jérôme Boateng, Hamburg's Germany defender, and plan to make an improved offer for James Milner, of Aston Villa, after failing with an opening £20m bid last week.

Stephen Ireland demands Manchester City exit after losing patience at Eastlands

By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 10:01 PM on 24th May 2010

Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland has officially asked to leave the club.
On is way? Ireland has asked to leave City

On is way? Ireland has asked to leave City

Ireland, player of the year at Eastlands in 2008/09, has grown frustrated at a lack of opportunities under coach Roberto Mancini and has asked City to invite offers from elsewhere.

City manager Mancini does not particularly want to lose Ireland but is aware the former Republic of Ireland international has become unsettled and has given the go-ahead for the 23-year-old to move on.

With City trying to persuade Aston Villa to sell England midfielder James Milner and also showing interest in Everton's Mikel Arteta, the club could certainly afford to be without Ireland next season.

However, there is some sadness at Eastlands that a player who enjoyed such a good season during Mark Hughes's first year as City manager has become so unhappy.

It's a piss take of a story - no name of a journo, no quote, just pure speculation.
The editor of the mail is getting paid (how much?) for inventing or just taking speculation from the forums, I'd like that job, easy life, journalism is a joke.

Irish Times had it a couple hours before Daily mail:
