I think he needs to feel loved by the manager(like he clearly was by Hughes) If he goes I wish him all the best, as I do with ANY city player who has not shit on the club.

Stephen Ireland has blamed Mark Hughes, the former Manchester City manager, for leaving him short of confidence in the period before Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini.

Ireland, who is expected to feature in tomorrow’s FA Cup fifth-round tie at home to Stoke City, said that his form suffered at the start of the season because Hughes insisted on playing him out of position to accommodate Carlos Tévez’s arrival. The Cork-born player was ushered on to both wings and even deployed as a holding player in competition with Nigel de Jong.

“I was being played out of position,” Ireland said. “Maybe as a holding midfielder, left wing, right wing. It is not me. You have to adjust and think, ‘I have to do it’, but if you want the best out of me, you have to play me in my best position. Then I can be myself because the chains are off. But the last six months under Mark Hughes was very frustrating for me.”

Can I just say CATEGORICALLY - there's been no transfer request from Ste, verbal or otherwise. These stories are a complete fucking load of dogshit.

obertan? hes a youngster so no way of knowing if he'll make it. as for the rest, not even the best of managers could of got much more out of those players. lets face it, they arent exactly ripping up trees. verons back in argentina, klebersons in brazil, djemba djemba was in denmark last i heard

Take your City glasses of for god sake, berbatov has alot more talent than ireland and has proven that in Germany, and in the PL for alot longer than Irelands 6 months. Ireland is a perfect example of the problem with young fotballers today, gets too much money too early and it gets to him, he seems to be more interested in cars and his missues. Funny how in another thread you guys slag Theo Walcott off, despite his lack of talent, he gives you 100% all the time and atleast try. while Ireland seem to think he is some sort of super star and everything should be given to him on a plate.

Lets be honest here, Ireland came through your rank and you have a special place in your heart for him, but he's nowhere as good as some of you claim. You will see that with the teams that actually come in for him, it will be the likes of newcastle and sunderland only interested

I have to say mate i have absolutly no idea what your on about i said i dont think ferguson would make Ireland any better then named players he hasnt helped as examples

We can expect him to confirm this on the os yes?

Why would he bother when half the people on here telling him do one anyway, hes already stated after end of the season this is his club and mancini has stated he has a future.

Mancini has stated he wants players who are versatile and can play in more than one position, Stevie admits himself he isn't comfortable with this and prefers the central midfielder role.

Sorry although I like Stevie as a player he needs to change his attitude and learn to adapt to fit in with Mancini's wishes otherwise I think it is inevitable he will leave.

it says in the manchester evening news today that he has not handed in a transfer request and will sit down with club officials in the near future to thrash out his grievances and discuss a possible move.
