Is 9 Trophies In 10 Years A Good Return Under Sheikh Mansour’s Ownership?

we`ve only been really capable of winning trophies for about 6 years?!?!

That is a good point. The first 4 seasons were buying anyone we could to get us up the league. Spending was wild and necessary. We then probably wasted a couple of seasons buying poorly when we could have secured better players. Pellegrini did well to instantly transform us but then under FFP we were treading water until Pep's arrival. We now have a young and well balanced squad that is one central midfielder (of a defensive mindset) away from being practically perfect in terms of our options. Yes we could still add another LB or RB but we can manage.

Look mate, this isn’t a let’s have an argument and swear thread. It’s an easy going discussing on whether 9 trophies is a good return in 10 years.

But if you want to discuss the Charity Shield, then fair enough

It’s fair to say the Charity Sheild isn’t a trophy as such. It’s flat for starters. It’s won on the day, and after winning one match. However, go on any clubs website and it is listed on their honours board, and makes up a % of their trophy wins and success.

Go on to United’s OS trophy room website :-( and they have won the Charity Sheild *21 times*. Minus that off their trophy haul and it takes away a sizeable amount of trophies they have won. (Sorry, Ric) https://www.manutd.com/en/History/Trophy-Room/Community-Shield The same with Liverpool, etc.

It’s safe to say most supporters from every club don’t think the Charity Sheild is a trophy. But regardless of what supporters think, the Charity Sheild is classed as a trophy by the clubs, and as such, is seen as a valid trophy by the clubs.(Do me a fucking favour clubs)
United have won the CS 18 times and shared it three times.

How many times were they in it from 60 to 92 and 92 to 06?
They played in it in 1959-60, 1960-61, 1974-75, 1985-86, 1991-92*, 1993-94, 1997-98-every season since.

So they won it for the first time in their fifth attempt. Then won it for the second time ten attempts later.

I wouldn't count the Community Shield as a "proper"trophy, seeing as only two teams can compete for it (and yes; I realise that you earn the right to compete for it by winning a "proper" trophy the preceding season, unless a team does the double of league and FA Cup).

Community Sheild: 12/13, 18/19
League Cup: 13/14, 15/16, 17/18
FA Cup: 10/11
PL Title: 11/12, 13/14, 17/18.

PL Title.

Positive. 3 PL titles is a great return considering the competition. Especially winning the title with the last kick of the season in extra time. And winning the league by 19 points and breaking numerous records last season.
Negative. Allowing United to win the title in 12/13, after we didn’t push on, and United signed Van Persie.

FA Cup.

Positive. Our First trophy under Sheikh Mansour’s ownership. Beating Stoke City in the final.(After beating United in the semi-Final)
Negative. Losing to Wigan Athletic in the final. And the Mancini sacking mess the soured the whole day. All these years later I still can’t believe we lost that game and basically tosted the FA Cup away. Only winning it once.

League Cup.

Positive. Wininng it 3 times. We seem to have an affinity with the League Cup. Willy saving the penalties against the Scousers.
Negative. Nothing.

Charity Shield.
Positive. Beating Chelsea and Arsenal.
Negative. Could and should have won it more often. Losing to Arsenal with a weakened team.

Near enough a trophy a season is a very good return. PL Titles and League Cup wins stand out. The FA Cup return has been disappointing. So has the CL, where we’ve reached 1 semi-final, but went out with a whimper against Real Madrid.

Disclaimer: Hope my trophy figures are correct? :-)
It has been amazing.

If I was being picky we should have won the domestic treble under Pellegrini and beaten Wigan in the final, so 2 more FA Cups. I think the 2013 season was a real disappointment. We were easily good enough to win the league again but didn’t kick on.

I hope this year Pep can take us to new levels to retain the league and go deep into the Champions League.

Too right. After seeing us lose to Spurs on the Thursday night in 81 I thought that was it for trophies.

Second most successful club this decade

1. Chelsea 3xPrem, 3xFAC, 1xLC, 1xCL, 1xEL (9 trophies)
2. City 3xPrem, 1xFAC, 3xLC (7 trophies)
3. United 2xPrem, 1xFAC, 2xLC, 1xEL (6 trophies)
4. Arsenal 3xFAC
5. Leicester 1xPrem
6. Wigan 1xFAC
7. Swansea 1xLC
8. Liverpool 1xLC
9. Birmingham 1xLC
I would say 2010 is the last year of the last decade so we’re joint top with Chelsea. It’s also for the 2009/10 season.

the Gregorian calendar begins with the year 1. (There is no year "zero", and the year before AD 1 is 1 BC with nothing in between.) Therefore, its firstdecade is from AD 1 to AD 10, the second decade from AD 11 to AD 20, and so on.[5] So, although "the 1960s" comprises the years 1960 to 1969, "the 197th decade" spans 1961 to 1970.

If we win three trophies this season and then Chelsea do the same next season, I might change my mind!
