Is it just me or do other blues do this?

Something I'll never be able to be a part of unfortunately, my family is Italian and I'll always support Italy. Apparently it takes generations to get rid of this, so I'm on the outside looking in. First generation mancunian happy to have chosen the right side( or did it choose me ?)

Due to my grandmother being german and my dad also supporting germany, i always have done too and i don't hide the fact from anyone. If i was a footballer i would qualify to play for both Germany and England, guess which one i'd choose? Haha. Quite frankly the English national team has been a joke for years, and will probably remain one for years to come. I could never support England anyway even if i wanted to, due to the ever present rags in the team.

Can't really understand the attitude of the majority in this thread. When I'm watching England I'm watching as an England fan and it's irrelevant to me who the players play for at club level. I'll never forget the 1990 World Cup. I was on holiday in Rhodes and everyone was right behind the team. City, United, Arsenal, Liverpool, nobody cared, and it's only when England play that this happens. We should have won it that year imo.
It's because we were good and in with a shout that everyone was behind it. We aren't that good at the moment so nobody gives a fuck. If we had Spains team right now everyone would be fucking licking England's arse and would be all over supporting them.

Fickle football fans in 'only interested in glory' shocker!

It's a circular argument though really. If the FA were seen to be taking actual realistic steps to address the inherent problems in English football with an eye on eventually developing a team in the mould of the current Spanish one, the average football fan would be much more supportive.

As it is, we're stuck in a never-ending cycle of mediocrity because the FA are intent on hamstringing their managers by treating the national setup as a cashcow for appeasing sponsors.

10 years after the 'Golden Generation' first came to the fore, we're now further away than ever from being of the required standard. That's the reason people are switching off in ever-increasing numbers.

To be fair after watching Spain's under 17s under 18s Unser 20s and under 21s we will never become as good as Spain at football.

I agree with this. We need a manager to be given a long term brief to bring through the promising youngsters that we have and build an England TEAM. This will require patience on the behalf of England fans, but I believe the nation would get behind the team if they could see that there was a plan in place for the future. I believe Germany did something similar recently and look at them now. When we get knocked out of the European Championships when we come up against the first quality side and Capello goes, this is the time to start.

That's not a reason to switch off though. That's being unloyal. Imagine if all us Blues fucked off on City after Swales took us from being a premier team in this country to a fucking laughing stock, selling all our good young local talent, ruining the stadium, ruining the bank balance etc etc. Don't get me wrong, England rate way down under City for how much I support them but I do support England. What we're left with at the present time with football fans is a properly pathetic, bitter, twisted, sad and very Rag-esque bunch of wankers as a football nation. This includes many many City fans.

While I get your drift, I don't see the comparison with Swales to be honest. The FA has never been richer and never more capable of taking the necessary steps to sort English football out, but it remains stuck in the dark ages when it comes to football development. If the FA can't be arsed to sort out the mess properly, why should we be arsed about showing anything more than a passing interest in the team it has cast as being its own personal club?

England really are shite and even when they were good (1966) they were good with the added advantage of a leg-up into the later rounds (home team automatic pass through) and they played at home with home support and home pressure on referee decisions.
That brought out one world cup success (well done to alf and the boys).

However, I was very very young when that happened, I can hardly remember it and since then they've simply disappointed on a four yearly basis until I've got to the point where I don't give a toss about them and only ever watch to see a city player perform or to see a rag take an injury or get sent off.

I think I'm representative of most of the few who tune in to watch these games.
