Is Milner Overrated?

i wasnt bothered if we got him or not,at time would have prefered ireland to stay, now hes here,i can see why it was well worth paying over the odds (which it was).hes up and down that wing, defensively quite good(bellers was not so good),fast, good attacking, scores goals (although took pens for villa, stats etc!!),takes a good free kick (not long ago,we had nobody to do that!!!)
the fact weve not let in many goals, and we are still ropey on crosses at back imo, tells you our left back is not getting as exposed as in previous seasons. plus he didnt have pre season with us,takes some players time to gel etc.i think hes done very well.
i couldnt see the big attraction with barry either but choose a match and try to watch either of them as much as you can-their work work rate, little tackles breaking up play, runs off the ball etc. theres a reason villa are now sh*t,and its losing these 2

I'm sorry pal but we'll have to agree to disagree on the notion we are better judges of footballers/football than the players themselves.
So you are saying the likes of Collymore, Cascarino and Merson are better at judging players than all the fans?

Can you find me a quote where i said that? You mentioned pundits not me, i'm talking about the current players who have played against milner are in a better position to judge than me or you... btw did you watch every single milner performance last season?

jesus the guys had like 3 games, not really in position, and one of them he was one of the best players on the pitch, the other 3 he's struggled at times in, but his workrate has helped us defensively to break other teams play up, blackburn for example i thought he was excellent in getting stuck in and breaking it up when other werent, give the lad a fair crack at the whip

and on the pfa player of the year shit, i thought he more than deserved it last year

No.

He can play a variety of positions and play them well, he can both attack and defend, he's young and he's English. I can't think of a single person who we could get who would tick the above criteria.

Added to this, we paid £16m + Ireland, not £26m
But if you negate the fact that he is English and he is young, because this won't have a great effect on how well he performs, with the exception that he can play in the Premier League of course...

I bet you can think of plenty of players who are versatile yet can attack and defend fairly well? Milner doesn't excel in either area imo. He is better going forward than he is going backwards mind.

I think he's a fairly average player with a great attitude and a great work ethic. I'm glad he's in the squad, but i can think of plenty of better players.

He's probably one of the most over-rated players in the league though, in terms of how much the media seem to love him. Terry Venables in particular.

When Millner is described, rarely do you hear is footballing ability praised. Its all about hard work, passion and never say attitude I hear. He's a good squad player to have as he has great work rate and can play in many positions, but he wouldnt get in the top four teams
