Is the football bubble finally about to burst?

Not sure I'd see it as "snowflake-y", to be honest. Snowflake implies taking umbrage at a particular event. It's not umbrage particularly. More disillusionment or weariness with the way the game is going. As Gorton says, we've been blessed to see an incredible decade or so. And I've been lucky to be at some of the landmark events, allowing for my location and the costs involved. Maybe I'll feel differently in time, can't see it at the moment though.

Not missed it one little bit , miss the pre and post match beer with my mates but not the actual game and the shit that now goes with it

The thing is, once this pandemic is finally over we are all going to pay the price financially. It could be years before people have a disposable income and can afford to attend matches. There will be more important things to spend your money on.

I got pissed off with it all because it stopped being a fair representation of a teams’ ability a long long time ago. It’s pointless going to see a game when you already know the dippers and the rags will win - or a draw when playing each other.

We’ve seen already this season how things are being manipulated in order to assist the dippers, no matter how blatant it is. Why pay good money for a result that was known long before kick off?

Thing with football is I still enjoy a Saturday afternoon game, maybe Sunday too, but I can’t stand night matches anymore.

As more and more games are being moved for this that and the other, I end up missing 4/5 games a season now so my reasonable £34 if I go to every game ticket becomes £47 if I miss 5.

As shown recently I think we have been to that many finals in the last 10 years that it will be easy to get one for finals even if not a ST holder in future.

You can also pick tickets up on here for £20 some games too, so it’s becoming a “do I need to spend this much to watch the games I want to watch” question.

On the broader picture I can see it being a huge problem for clubs going forward. There is no way this event isn’t going to have a major impact on the industry.

Cheers Bill..!

I appreciate you telling us how you feel and I'm sorry to hear you're at the end of the line..

However, I'm of the opinion that you will not be alone in deciding to call it a day..

Like you say, it's not just about the current situation, it's about the manipulation, FFP, VAR, UEFA's ongoing witch hunt against us and the way it's packaged up in general for fans' consumption that has tipped it over the egde for me..

The coronavirus situation has enabled people to take stock and evaluate what's important and what's not..

Football and the PL in general has been exposed..!

Quickly, on another issue, you made me smile when you posted your haircut picture that your wife gave you the other day ..

Nothing wrong with your haircut btw Bill, your wife did a great job..

My turn this afternoon as my Mrs is going to cut mine..
I allowed her to cut it once before, years ago and I was a laughing stock for about 3 weeks..

She's got the same look in her eye this time round too ffs!!

Luckily I don't know how to post pictures on here..!

Is it too warm to wear a hat for 3 weeks solid 24/7?
Baseball cap on the wrong way round maybe...

..we've been blessed to see an incredible decade or so...
I think that’s the outstanding point.
We have been gloriously entertained , we’ve won a mine of silverware, we’ve smashed records left , right and centre... and we’re not moaning or complaining about all that, nor are we being sanctimonious and wallowing in the ‘glory’ of it, saying it will last for ever.
We’re getting weary of the never ending corruption, money driven, commercialized ‘product’ that is evident to anyone that doesn’t support a team in red.

Even before Covid-19 came over the horizon, I was rapidly falling out of love with the game. VAR, and the constant hyping up of certain clubs beyond what was reasonable, had drained my enthusiasm for the game. Plus, it's more of a business now than a sport, IMO. I went over for the CC Cup Final, and, being honest, I didn't particularly enjoy it, despite us winning. It all seemed too much of an effort. And I wouldn't like to think what that weekend cost me, just so that I could watch a game of football. I'll always love City, damn it, but I can see me going over to very few games in the future. It's sad that it's come to this, but there you go.

A lot of what you've said above resonates with me too..

The enjoyment and excitement that first attracted me into football, coupled with my dad taking me, one of 6 sons he had (but he took me) to my first ever live game, the semi final second leg against Middlesborough in '76, had me hooked..

My 5 brothers (2 have since passed away sadly) never had or showed the passion that I had / have for the game which isn't an issue btw.

Sometimes I wonder why did football affect me like it did? why I stuck with it?

Even in our darkest times in leagues 1&2 when winning anything of note couldn't even be classed as a pipe dream, I followed City all over..

To be fair, I was probably more passionate in those times than I am now..

Like I say, I will probably renew my season card but things have changed and sadly not for the better..!

What I can guarantee though is that City will always have my support whatever happens..

Baseball cap on the wrong way round maybe...

Stay of execution mate, I've postponed the haircut until tomoz..!

The Mrs has had a couple of drinks in the garden this afternoon and I'm not sure letting her loose on my head with a pair of scissors is a good idea.. Ha!

I’ve just listened to a podcast on the Athletic which was pretty good. Someone on their reckons football will come back strong and there is a global appetite for it. I can’t see it
