Seriously poor game management from Boregate.
Every one, even @Barcon s cat could see Italy were going to equalize.
Why the fuck did he do nothing. Mount was giving the ball away time and time again.
And why not Kyle for a pen, or Shaw ?
Kyle would've ripped a hole in the net.
Absolute fucking gash.

England have to scrap that shit house song now ffs
He'd already taken Kyle off for one of his penalty taking specialist's, that went well.

Before the tournament I didn't think England would get past the semis but as things developed and with the benefit of an easy group and subsequent favourable draws, winning became a more and more realistic possible achievement. I would say England played well in only 2 games - Germany and Ukraine. They were merely efficient in the others - except the drab draw v Scotland - based around a very solid defence and set up.
Did Southgate get the best out of his squad - probably not. Did he show a willingness to change and adapt his tactics and players during games ? Not really. He played a limited, restrictive game based to reduce mistakes and opposition chances to a minimum.
Yesterday, after half time - when being dominated in midfield, the obvious call seemed to be to bring Grealish on. A player who can get on the ball, carry it forward and link with the forwards in areas that could hurt the Italians. He should have been on a lot earlier.
Penalties are always a lottery - could have gone either way. Pickford did well and overall had a much better tournament than I was expecting.
I don't imagine Southgate will do much different in the next World Cup. We have a group of very talented players but I I don't think we have a good enough manager.
England did well to reach the final but having got there, blew the chance to lift the trophy. Chances like that come along very rarely.

People slagging off Southgate, so presumably you want him sacked before the world cup and replaced with......?
Someone who plays football and passes the medical, how they missed waistcoat lacked a spine I don’t know. Come to think of it maybe that’s what the waistcoat is for.

England team that won the world cup:
  • Banks
  • Cohen
  • Charlton
  • Moore
  • Wilson
  • Stiles
  • Ball
  • Charlton
  • Peters
  • Hunt
  • Hurst
Not two holding midfielders, not five at the back, not the centre forward playing deep lying.

Moore was a great captain, a great defender and was good bringing the ball out of defence. Only Stiles was in the team as a midfield enforcer. Ball, Charlton, Peters, Hunt and Hurst were all intent on attacking the opposition.

Compare that with Mr. Waistcoats side, only Sterling attacking regularly. Mount and Kane playing as midfieders. The rest of the team - Pickford, Walker, Maguire, Stones, Shaw, Trippier, Phillips, Rice were all there to defend.

Given a golden opportunity to win something on home soil and the manager wimps out and is not prepared to unleash the attacking talent at his disposal. Did he realistically think getting all his team camped in their own half for the bulk of the game was going to achieve anything or actually provide any entertainment.

The best team won and deservedly so.
Whilst I agree with your last sentence I must take issue with your comparison with 1966. Now I am not old enough to remember it and I don’t know if you are but that World Cup winning team was defensive with some great attacking talent. Before the final the games were low scoring, there was no 4 nils. I have also read a bit about that campaign and English football was normally played with 2 wingers which Ramsey didn’t use at all and also our key midfielder, Charlton, was told to mark Beckenbauer for the final rather than attack.

It was the waistcoat who chose the penalty takers, he said himself, it wasn't Raz hiding, it was numbnuts call.

correct and also his decision to give the crucial pressure fifth penalty to the most inexperienced young player in the team who doesn’t take penalties For his club.

terrible decision

Once Italy turned up they were in charge. You nearly got away with it when it went to penalties, but it wasn't to be. Italy deserved it. To be honest, I thought you were piss poor, apart from the opening 20 minutes. You never went for it, tried to hold onto the lead and paid the price. Awful penalties where your guys shat it, but you didn't deserve it.

I want to start a national petition that demands that thick, inarticulate, bumbling **** Ferdinfanny never gets on a football show again. He is such an embarrassment.

Well done Italy..not at your best but still too good.

Let the Scapegoating begin.

I think four or five people have responded to this. Only one has come up with an actual name. Everyone else has come up with some fictional ideal manager that only exists in their imagination. So good luck with that, I guess.

Listening to the radio this morning, the narrative they're pushing is that its all Sterling's fault

Not that clueless clown Southgate, or the two rags who missed their pens... its Sterling's fault for not taking one

That didn't take long
Not a fan of Sterling’s myself but he was England’s best player during the tournament. Even Sterling’s biggest fan wouldn’t be confident in him taking a penalty. Suppose they need something to talk about but a player who’s poor at penalties not taking one really shouldn’t be a debate today.

I can’t stand boregate as a manager but one thing I bet he was thorough on was practising pens. Rashford is clearly a decent penalty taker but shit happens.

Off the top of my head Graham Potter would have used our more technical players and played much better football.
