It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

All fair points, but the Fernandinho of last season was far from a peak Fernandinho. His legs had gone and in some games he was a bit of a liability sadly. Kalvin Phillips will replace last seasons playing version of Fernandinho no problem and will give us much needed legs and energy in midfield. He is a very viable option to rotate with Rodri and play alongside him too and that's what we need. I doubt he's the type of player that would rock the boat either if he didnt play every gane. I also think Phillips has got improvement in him too and we'll see that over the next few years should he sign.

What we can't replace with Fernandinho is his leadership skills. That aura around the dressing room will be missed and its where other players will need to step up just like when Kompany left the void in the dressing room.
**Calling Rúben Dias to the dressing room... That's Rúben Dias to the dressing room**

i imagine the price of £50m for Phillips will be the final price including bonus/success related add ons? I`m sure if the club are paying the add ons then we will have been successful and no one will care about the fee. Rice would be a minimum of £120m plus add ons imo and no one is paying that for him.
Also factor in wages, I would think Phillips would be on considerably less than Rice.

I would imagine Rice would want 250k plus if he moves, Phillips probably less than half of that.

Plus phillips would be happy as a back up to rodri rice would not.
No chance Phillips would be happy to arrive as a back up player. If he's coming I think the system is changing.

Not necessarily directed at you but people are acting like we're signing a wildcard who will be happy with cup games. He's a 26 year old full England international, in his prime and a world cup year. He's coming to start.

Pretty sure Philips wouldn´t be a regular starter. No way he is replacing Rodri and i don´t see why Pep would start playing with a double pivot.

Whether that's the case or not, his point still stands. Phillips, if he comes, is coming to start games and not as a back-up.

If Pep was considering a system change to have two holding midfielders we'd be looking at buying two holding midfielders. We couldn't go into the season with just Rodri and Phillips for those spots. Unless you think Silva will play there as well and then Phillips would STILL be a backup.

Well, we're buying a specialist wing back in cucurella and haaland will alter the system so something is changing.

Regardless of opinions, Phillips is not coming to city to sit on the bench, he's coming to play
