It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

We signed the best young striker in the world.

We signed South Americas best young attacking player.

We signed a proven 26 yr old English international midfielder to replace an ageing Fernandinho.

There is still plenty of time in the transfer window.

How can you be disappointed?
Not only have we secured some of the best talent in world football right now, we've done so at a very reasonable cost. If a decent full back like Cucurella or Raum can be signed to strengthen the left back position, there's no question that this will be our best window ever. I'm not even sure it's necessary to replace Raheem given the attacking talent at our disposal. Exciting times ahead!

If we're losing Ake, we're going to be three players short of having two in each position and that's including Cole Palmer, who has barely played any senior football.

People can jiggle things around and say "this player can cover that position" as much as they want but I fail to see how anyone can claim that is optimal.

There's ages to go in the window and I'm pretty sure we'll make Cucurella happen eventually. Until then, there will be pretty obvious holes in the squad.
We've never had two in each position though have we? (at least not in recent years)

Why this sudden insistence from people that we need that?

No we haven't and this summer is when we've got the funds and opportunity to put that right.

If you're telling me that having Zinchenko and an alleged rapist (who was practically a non-entity even before he was facing charges) at left back has been ideal or that not replacing Kompany for a year, not replacing Aguero for a year and not having a backup to Fernandinho for a year were all smart ideas then I doubt we're going to agree.

I can accept that the reality is that we might not have had the funds at those times and had to prioritise other positions but we certainly do have the funds now.

If we're not bothered about four centre backs why is that currently what we have? If we're not bothered about having two available left backs then why are we going after Cucurella?

With the exception of centre mid, it's pretty obvious that we do want two players per position.

And despite not being ideal we still carried on winning, it's almost as if the club actually know what they're doing.

Ake was bought because it was thought at the time that Laporte was going, Ake could also play at left back when needed as we still don't have a specialised left back.

I still can't see how it's "obvious" that we want two players per position although you rather shot yourself in the foot by stating "with the exception of centre mid". Is it two players per position or not?

Jesus out - Haaland in (Best striker in world football)
Sterling out - Alvarez in (Best striker in South America)
Fernandinho out - Phillips in (England's player of the year)
Cucurella potentially in (One of the best LB's in the league last year)

As mentioned, extremely disappointing

I understand your point but Haaland replaces Aguero, Alvarez replaces Torres, and Cucurella, should he sign, replaces he who cannot be named.

We’ll still have a strong squad irrespective, but I still think another high-quality player wouldn’t go amiss.

And that's without Jesus and Sterling being replaced?

This is such a tedious discussion. The window opened a week ago and people are making calculations based on whatever they dream would be the final squad
