It's Quiet 17 - Glory Thread

He clearly wanted to stay at Barcelona, but presumably he will eventually reach a breaking point with their attempts to screw him over. Ornstein is talking about the Dutch Players Association and FIFPRO getting involved and Barcelona taking legal action over the contract being illegal.

Surely at some point you just say enough is enough, I'm out of here - if someone offers you an enticing landing spot.

Not disputing that one bit.

What I'm suggesting is it wouldn't be us. Because we have shown no interest in him at all. Over some 8 months where he was a possible target to look at in various versions of availability.

Slightly better in *few aspects*

My point was Brighton sold a player of comparable calibre for twice as much money. So yes, they scammed Chessi hard but even we could milk some more cash out of Arsenal.
You have to factor in that if Cucurella was at City, he’d spend more time attacking and those starts would be better than they were last season.

I think most of us think MC and OZ are similar going forwards, but MC is clearly better defensively, hence us offering more than we got for OZ.

I feel like there could be a really good deal made if this is left alone for a few more weeks.

Similar to how we got Dias for 25m cheaper because Benfica failed the CL qualifier, if there was a team De Jong wanted to play for (ie not United), leave this financial mess to get worse for Barcelona and then offer them a really cut price to get rid of him.
Good shout that. He’d probably want more game time than we could offer though?

The wage Chelsea will throw at him will be just as ridiculous if its a cut price fee i expect.

Whoaa there ! So Barcelona only discovered this "illegality" when they wanted to renege on his contract ? And;

"alleging the terms given to him by the club’s previous board involved criminality and provide grounds for legal action against those involved"

They talk as though Barcelona under the previous regime were a different club entirely to the current Barcelona. No, no, no matey it's your club and if there was illegality involved, the club, and, by association, you, are up to your necks in it. I hope someone has called the police as well as UEFA's investigative arm. Also, you shouldn't use a crime as leverage against someone (although some ropey organisations do) and, in this case, if I was a club looking to sign FDJ, I wouldn't sign him anyway with criminal allegations hanging over him. I can just see it. Barca sell him and then report the matter so the sap that bought him has not only bailed them out but paid top dollar to inherit a problem. I can't ghink of any club that stupid...oh....

I just don't think there is any interest in him though, as a signing. From all the Torres negotiations and payment agreement, their constsnt claims of interrat in Bernardo, and basically the whole summer of them trying to sell him, while we identified and went and signed all our intended targets bar LB, you would think if we were even remotely interested in bringing him here Something would have been looked at or come out by now.
I've read that this is in line with our policy of not going back in for players who've rejected us in the past. We went for him when he was leaving Ajax and he chose not to come, so they're not going back for him.

The only one we did do that for was laporte

Considering Klopp is bemoaning his midfield, I'm surprised they aren't showing interest in FDJ

In defence of Laporte, he snapped his ankle that summer and decided he’d rather not move clubs whilst injured!
