You know I don't mind spending a lot on Haaland but part of me misses letting the Rags have overpriced players and us finding undervalued gems!

I mean look at Kalvin Philips for 40 mil and Julian Alvarez for 15 mil.. who's worth more to us?

Sadly there are few bargains out there in fact the total opposite, Alvarez for 15m was robbery on our part, I hope Txiki had a Dick Turpin mask on when he handed over the cheque.

Phillips so far has been a disaster but I would imagine if we put him up for sale in the summer we would get our money back, that's how crazy the Premier league market is.

We been spoiled with pep because make no mistake keeping us 2nd in this(Yes) a transitional season with a team with 3/4 player not on it and wanting a move or just can’t go to the well again is pretty good.

We need 3/4 top new players this summer with the likes of Silva Cancelo Laporte and gundogan might be going!

If that many first teamers go and you bring in 3/4 next season, it will be another transition! The league next year though be mad, with Chelsea, Liverpool who wont be as bad, rags if they get Kane competing for title, then you have probable champions Arsenal plus spurs and Newcastle top four ain’t guaranteed for any of us!

Fuck Milan. If they want Cancelo, Leao needs to be coming the other way in some permutation of a deal. Leao with Haaland would be frightening...

I think the one we would want in return is Theo Hernandez. After watching Leao play 40 times or so it would surprise me a lot if he would be a success here. My guess is that he would be about as good as last season Sterling. If there is any winger from Serie A we should sign its definitely Kvaratskhelia who is much, much better than Leao in my opinion. With that said, I dont think we will sign any of them. And Milan probably cant afford Cancelo either :)

We have looked old and leggy for some time, major surgery in the engine room and out wide.

Agreed...our midfield is really starting to struggle witht he exception of Rodri

KDB is an issue - I believe anothe season at most out of him is the max we can expect and I think that is pushing it...he still has the odd game in him BUT he is becoming a problem and needs replacing

Gundo - rumours of leaving in the summer.....still a good player but he deserves a move if he wants to go and Pep will give him that out of respect...

Phillips - a lot of what has happened with him this season is not in his control - however coming back unfit after the World cup was his responsibility - you get the feeling that you get only on fuck up with Pep and Phillips has had his....now he needs to step up - The bits we have seen Ive not been impressed at all BUT he obviously needs a chance to bed in and get use to playing with us.

bernardo - a fully motvated and fit Bernardo is a huge asset to ANY team in the world but he seems to want to go - therefore we need a replacement -

Based on that Id say we need at least THREE midfielders this summer - Im guessing Perrone will be assessed over the next 6 months as to whether he will be one of them.....Bellingham a clear target is another but I think we need a third

I also think we need a different type of winger to add variety to the the marhez, Grealish and foden options wide

I guess the other issue is transitioning from a Pep team to whoever takes over....Im sure this is also part of the thinking as I think its obvious that at the end of this extension that Pep has just signed that will be it for Pep...he will leave no matter what. Im also sure that the people in charge (Txixi, Khaldoon, Sorianno et al. ) will have the person in mind who it is to take over (maybe even Pep has been asked for input on this) - I know the club have an established way of playing (the Pep way) but we are going to have to buy players with the new manager in mind who may have slight tweeks on the way he wants to play ....(cant imagine havign worked so hard to get the way of playing we have now throughout all levels of the club and all levels/teams of CFG that we ill suddenly move away from that when Pep leaves)

All of that and we probably STILL needs a specialist left back!!!

I honestly would try and swap Phillips for rice in the summer. West Ham have always been interested in Phillips and I believe rice has 2 years left on his deal this summer. Thinking Phillips plus 30 mil could do it.

To me Phillips is no where near the level we need, i said this prior to him joining and my opinion hasn’t changed in the limited appearances he has made. We now play a cm alongside rodri and I honestly think rice would be really well suited to the role. He also is a leader, good character to have in the dressing room, will be hungry for trophies and also will help with set pieces with his height.

Alongside rice I think we desperately need some legs in the squad. I’d try and get a nippy winger (no idea who but someone like Mudryk) and another energetic cm someone like caicedo at Brighton. We are too slow these days across the side and we need a jolt of energy. Also would get a lb

I’d swap him for a rice pudding, he’d probably swap himself for one too ;-).

Agree about him not being the level we need, I’ve said from the off, I just don’t see it in him, not a bad player but an above average, one pace player, genuinely think now Pep has had him for a while and ran the rule over him, it may be crossing his mind too.

I read this thread with a degree of astonishment. Judgements already passed on Philips and Gomez, as not good enough to wear the shirt - let me go and look for their total minutes. Is this the same as those who condemned Rodri as a load of shite too?

We have competed, relentlessly, at the top end of the world game, for season after season. We have had the World Cup, with more players from City present than any other club, yet we are second in the table, in the FA cup, through in the CL, but people are condemning players and talking about how essential a rebuild is? What stops you from just enjoying another successful season? Yes, we have a few players out of form, but does that mean, in this strangest of seasons, that they are done?

Nobody is asking for a happy clapper convention, just a dose of realism and support for your team and players that have served us well, as well as those who have just arrived, getting to grips with a new style of play, and new demands, while coping with injuries or operations. We may need (want) the odd signing, but that's about it.
