Interesting take - and although I can’t fault your logic, I guess I see it slightly differently.

As I see it we haven’t had a proper centre forward or a proper left back for two seasons now (with Kun’s injuries in his final year and the ongoing Mendy disaster show).

Neither Torres nor Jesus are traditional strikers like Kun was, and neither Cancelo nor Zin are actually left backs.

We’ve won two titles making do in both positions, which is nothing short of astonishing - a testament to the desire, ingenuity and commitment of Pep and the squad.

I see Haaland and (if we get him) Cucurella as properly filling two holes in the squad with actual specialists in their positions.

That improves us - without a doubt. They are both additions rather than replacements as I see it. Arguably they replace Kun and Mendy - but as we haven’t really had them in any meaningful way for the last 2 years, they’re as good as additions.

Phillips would replace Fernandinho, and Alvarez would replace Jesus - sure - and it’s debatable whether they are genuine improvements.

But having an actual striker and an actual left back will improve us hugely, and will give us do much more versatility - without a doubt.

Haaland absolutely - a next level signing
Cucurella I agree with the potential, but zinchenko has been fantastic and a little underrated

Yeah, the sun isnt the ideal source compared to the six that came out last week. Doubt its 45.

Would be a good move for both of them. Improve their salaries and more game time.
Decent manager and coaching staff will enable a champions League place next year.

I would expect us, dippers, chavs, rags and spuds all to finish above the Tarquins next season

When you look at Sunday, who would deny that Zinchenko and Gabby were absolutely critical to the spirit, soul and personality of our team. Nobody contributed more than Zinchenko, nobody fought harder than Gabby. I don't get the impression that either are agitating to leave. Why sell them?

You’ve obviously missed that Jesus has requested to leave…

Who’s to say the “six sources” aren’t feeding from the same one source, and maybe everyone is wrong? Given the age of the player, irrespective of the lack of high level experience, some numbers sound low to me when you look at the clubs rumored to be interested. With Grealish, everyone had a figure lower than the actual one revealed much closer to when the deal was finished

I love this man so much - really hoping he stays! Gives his all whenever he plays even in tragic circumstances and despite not always getting consistent runs of game time

I hope he stays too. I think he is a better defender than some credit him but he often really helps the team to play, as he did to great effect on Sunday. He can also fill in in midfield if needed.

Versatility is something Pep likes; plus this guy has a great attitude: he is the epitome of a good squad player.

If we add a quality left back to the squad, we are welll served with Cancelo, Walker and Zin as our four main FB options.

Dinho is going, he who shall not be named is done, Sergio and Torres went so I'd be very happy if we added an LFB and DMC to the squad to go with our two incoming forwards and kept the guys who are already here, if we can get Gabby and Raz onto new contracts.

I still think it more likely Gabby and / or Raz will choose to go; rather keep Gabs but suspect Raz might run his contract down and we can get good cash for Jesus.

Zinchenko staying will just mean we have 4 fullbacks. Which was the idea from the start... IF McAtee wants that loan Zinny could be used at LCM also. It also opens up for Cancelo being more on the right if walker needs resting too. I dont want him to leave nor do i think it would be smart considering how thin this squad already is. Quality person too.
