It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Nice!...looks like Pep wants a couple of fullbacks to provide the width.

He then has the option of a traditional back four or playing three at the back with wingbacks.

I like it!
if you read peps fully comments too hes talking about targeting profiles we dont currently have so to me suggests manybe a lb and a winger are going to come in on top of the replacing of players that leave.

so i wouldnt be shocked if its gvardiol, bellingham and mcallister (replacemetns for bernie gundo laporte) then a left back and a winger. it wouldnt be the first time weve signed 5 players in one window. It falls in line with the rumours of 300 million before sales.

If Ake signs a new deal, i just can't see us spending big money on Gvardiol and a starting LB, to me it'll be one or the other.

I can also see Foden moving into midfield taking Gundo's spot next season, so wouldn't be surprised to see less money spent on Gundo's replacement.
I like the idea of getting Kovacic.

Walker's 33 next birthday & represents our present & past. We need to be looking at our present & future, & full back is an area of concern for many.

There's so much for us to consider, least of all Foden & Grealish. I still believe Grealish was purchased as a longterm central midfield solution & Foden is destined for a central slot when he's tactically ready (Pep's assessment).

With the ages of Mahrez, Walker, KDB & Gundog, Bernardo wanting out, Cancelo looking unlikely to return & now question marks over Laporte, that's SEVEN top class players who we need to start the succession planning with.

It's a lot! But with Pep extending his contract & stating what the squad needs, it seems the club are happy & ready to go again with another squad rebuild.

The next two summer transfer windows will tell us a lot about City's future direction.
Not sure will be over 2 summers, just in case transfer ban incoming.

If Laporte leaves I think we will.

I also think Gomez almost certainly leaves on loan to somewhere like Girona, so that is 2 players out of the door.

Plus, I think Pep will want at least a left back that can bomb up the wing almost like a secondary winger, he will want that option.

I agree, I think we will prepare for all possible outcomes and this includes a transfer ban.

I think we will go all out this summer and cover ourselves for the 23/24 and 24/25 season just in case. Lots of contract extensions as well just to insure us.

Akanji wasn't bought to boost CB numbers, he was needed as quality cover for Laporte & Stones who never seem to play for long before an injury occurs.

To make matters worse Dias was still recovering from injury, & after recovering from injury himself, Aké got an injury scare too, hence Akanji for £15m was a no brainer. If Laporte was to leave & Gvardiol arrived, I can still see us rolling with 5 CB's regardless.

The interesting aspect of all this is what happens with Foden & Grealish? Do they remain wide & we seek replacements for Gundog, KDB & possibly Bernardo? Or do they move inside & we look to bring in a couple of pacey, skillful wingers?

I think the gvardiol signing is laportes replacement personally with him being left footed and not related to Ake also given Ake's injury history I think there's a reason we have 5 centre backs because stones is made of glass and Ake can have his issues . I think Gomez may go on loan hence a potential left back coming in although it wouldn't shock me if one doesn't but pep talking about profiles we don't have ? We don't have an overlapping left back.

I think Phil takes Kev's role not gundos role personally over the next couple of seasons.

I get the feeling pep wants 2 players for each role. But not the same profile of player.

It'll have to be over two summers as KDB has another season or two to go, the same as Mahrez & Walker. If Gundog isn't offered an extension & Bernardo leaves, there's no way we can plan for what's coming in one window without falling foul of FFP or having to buy cheap replacements not up to the same standard or better.

I don't think ffp come into it.

I think given the sales that are likely to happen this summer I think we will be fine. I think Bernardo laporte cancelo all fetch minimum 150 million in that's before you factor in youth academy products and the money we've saved from previous 2 summers.

I do agree with you that keV won't be replaced this summer nor do I think walker will be. I think eventually keV Is replaced by foden. And then another winger comes in. I would be shocked if we didn't go get a pacy winger this summer though.

I don’t think we’ll get close to £150m for those three. It wouldn’t surprise me if at least one of Cancelo and Laporte go out on loan. Not many teams outside of the PL have money.
