why - we have a small squad? so unless we are bound by FFP...other clubs (chelsea for instance) have much bigger squads

We are at the maximum number of players allowed, it’s that simple. The small squad thing was only because two players went on loan so we were two down. Now they are back, and we have the same squad numbers as anyone else.

You don't know that their loan deals end 30th june. Loan deals can last one week, 2 weeks, a season, twonseasons etc. Theirs effectively ended when the season ended, they are our players now and it is dishonest to exclude them by trying to be cute about it.

Sure, you and I can both agree we assume they will be gone before the new season and replaced by new players, no argument there. But when you put a list out and claim it as fact without any sort of mention of their exclusion, then sorry some people will run away with that, and others will correct it.

It's like the rules were written by teams who want to make sure that, if they finish outside the top 4, those who qualified for the CL are weaker the following season!

Christ, it's not a fact, at all. We can sign players now and then have until the window closes at the end of August to release players via loan or sales - that's when we have to register our squads. That's the important date and in terms of people, squad size is arbitrary until that point. Even after then, you can have players that aren't registered to play in different competitions. City don't tend to operate like that but they are completely able to.

If any of our transfer plans are limited by Cancelo, Phillips and Gomez etc not finding loans, then it would be poor business (and unlikely).

We do have room in the squad at the moment, it doesn't really matter until 1st of September and it's the 20th of June.
