One can only surmise that they’re sailing close to PSR limits if they are touting one of their best players around, so the fee might not be as mega as we think.

Same with Guimaraes.
under no threat last i read, that was September though.

What's the situation with our CL squad? I know we have two free places. You can deregister Rodri, so that's three. If McAtee goes then that's four. Oscar Bobb will likely be registered, so we're back down to three. I assume Bobb is classed as 'club-trained', so he'd cancel out McAtee, right?
They'll only be missing a couple of games before we bounce out at this rate, you can probably sell them on not being registered but getting all the PL games. We building a new monster team, wanna come fight and win?

A LB like Robinson would have been better investment in half the money but the board decided to take the easier option that they often tend to do in the last 4-5 years. There is a reason we only do release clauses because they are easy.
Gvardiol is easily 5 times the player of Robinson, who’s been shite for years but had a great performance against Liverpool and suddenly he’s the next new thing. As soon as we get out of this terrible form, people will realise that Gvardiol with a blindfold is still a far better player than Robinson

I suspect Callum Doyle may be our backup CB/LB hybrid next season and understudy to Gvardiol.

Gvardiol is quality and for me is a far better left back than CB. He has too much skill to be on the back line and he looks like he lacks the physicality required.

Gvardiol was a great buy. Had a v good first season. This year because of injuries we have heaped too much responsibility on him. If you think we paid what we did for him for a quick easy deal - you’re very wrong.
So quick to heap criticism on our young players.
I guess you and the other posters too are drawing wrong conclusion from my post is as well.
My point was ,we were not needing another high fee defender at that point of time. Would have been better to use that money to outbid for Rice or pay the release clause of Bruno G. Despite our winnings we too have to pay strict attention to PSR.

For me, Gvardiol is an excellent player but was a luxury buy at that point of time.
Not once did I criticize Gvardiol in my entire post, just our transfer policy.
Its not about Robinson vs Gvardiol, peeps! One is 27 and plays for Fulham. Its about correct investment at correct time.

Branthwaite can't get a look in at Everton why would we swap Stones?

He's been injured. He played the full 90 against Arsenal.

Working under a manager who expects you to get rid of the ball as soon as possible doesn't help. IF we signed him he could become another Stones - but we would have to accept a good year or so of coaching out the Dyche-isms.

Sounds too good to be true

The fact we require 4 players in JANUARY (Which is renowned for being an incredibly difficult month to sign decent players given clubs don’t want to sell half way through a season) is a damning indictment on how woeful the squad planning has been in the last two years.
