It's Quiet - a new dawn

After the difficulties Bravo has had adapting I think an English keeper is a safer bet. Knows what they physical demands are. I'm sure we'll buy a keeper. Just getting a solid keeper like Cech, Schmeichel, Cudicini etc would make a huge difference. I don't think you can win a title without a top keeper. Will be the most important move of the Summer.

Erm did you say Cudicini? He is 43.

Pep said in a press conference he just needed some experience in front of crowds so Pep could trust him like he trusted the kids in La Masia (who played in the division below Girona). Evidently that was a lie, as he's gone and gotten that experience, done very well under that pressure, and Guardiola is now blocking off his path to the team by re-signing a guy who at best you could say hasn't been a disaster filling in at RB, but still manages to offer less going forward than Zabaleta who's so old can barely get to the overlap.

If this happens there's no way to sugar coat the fact Guardiola is screwing over the kids for the benefit of ageing senior pro's who have no business even being in the squad.

Maffeo will probably go on loan in La Liga and then leave for a club who will play him when his contract ends, then probably pop up in 5 years time like Trippier. We've seen it all before.

I agree with you. Maffeo has done what has been asked of him and deserves the chance. And Pep should have used some of the kids more this season, especially Garcia. I'm just trying to see some positives in potentially a new loan to Girona. Hopefully, with a squad more suited to Peps requirements we see him use acadamy players more often next season. And there really shouldn't be any reason not to, if the club truly has a plan to incorporate them and make the academy our crown jewel so to speak.

On one hand i do feel Maffeo should stay as second choice RB over Navas next season but on the other i think that hampers his progress to certain extent. Him being on Loan for another year is not all that bad, Navas has been okay as RB so won't mind him staying for one more year... But if given a choice i'd probably choose Maffeo as second choice RB next season.

I think it's likely we're going to get something along the lines of:
Ederson
Van Dyke
Walker
Mendy
Tielemens

That's probably going to cost north of £200m, and not of them are really anything to get excited about. But they're probably exactly what we need.

We've spent the last couple of summers getting excited about Sané, Sterling, Moreno, Zinchenko, Jesus, DeBruyne, even Roberts to an extent. It's easier to get excited about attacking players. But in truth, we've needed to invest in some world class full backs for a long time.

I think this summer should be one where we make all the signings the team actually needs and don't worry too much about how "marquee" they are.

Throw Fabinho in there instead of Walker and I'll be happy. I'd also have Bertrand as back up to Mendy.

And Mbappé ;-)

Apparently he wants a contract with a 23.5mil release clause which basically is him looking for a move surely.

We should have been in for him as soon as he was done at Southampton. Still frustrates me that spurs for Vertonghen and Alderweireld for about 25mil combined.
There was a guy who used to whine that we should get them both long long ago before either was popular.

:(
Czech, Danish, Italian.
I think he meant someone from the Premier League.

Sign a LB, RB, CB

Keep Kolarov LB and CB cover Navas RB cover

Yes, signing a LB and CB is a must as well. It hurts me to see Kolarov and LB mentioned in the same sentence but he will probably stay as he has a year left and he's a good back up more so at CB, just hope to never see him at LB vs a good team or team with pacy winger, but for the cups and lower table teams he'll do.

With news of extension to Navas and Yaya's contracts, maybe the huge turnover of players forecast is off the mark. I always felt that 4 quality signings was the way to go. ie Four immediate starters in the dodgy positions.

Last night I realized I had forgotten about Ilkay. He is like a new signing.

Goalkeepers Ederson and Bravo

Defenders Stones, VK, Otamendi, Kolarov, Walker, Mendy (or AN other), Navas,

Midfield 3 selected from Gundongan, Silva, Yaya, Dinho, Garcia That should do.
Front 3 from Raheem, Leroy, Kun, KdB (yes I'd play him wide) and Sanchez

You forgot, Jesus, still think we would need a centre back and a pivot as well, six, signings for me.

Spot on, it's good to see some logic on here. A lot of people have their blue tinted specs on when it comes to our youngsters, but it never actually works out as easy as they want. It's usually between the ages of 21-23 and takes several loans before these players start stepping up. All that's required is a bit of patience.

Exactly, I have complete faith in the academy. In the near future, I am confident we'll frequently have some academy lads playing major roles in the first team. We just have to be realistic. Everyone is obsessed with the Barca generation that came from their academy including amazing players like Messi, Iniesta, Busquets, Pique, Xavi the reality is that is a very, very, very rare occurrence.

For clubs challenging for the big trophies, it will be impossible to field a team made up mostly from academy graduates. I am looking at Real's team today, only Carvajal is from the academy I believe. Atletico 3 players, Juve 0, Bayern 2, Chelsea 0, PSG 0, in their starting elevens. We will be lucky to have even 2 players from the academy constantly in the starting 11 in the future.

Our fans put too much pressure on the managers to use the academy products, reality is most are not good enough and a lot will never be.

Sane is a very good finisher.

i agree his finishing is good......BUT he isn't getting into positions to do it at the moment....He started like a rabbit in headlights..then looked like he was really starting to hit his stride......then he has gone backwards to what he was like at the start. He isn't getting into position to score and has looked really poor in the last few games.
He is young and you expect that with a young player like him but thats why its important to have proven goal scorers as well
