It's Quiet - a new dawn

Nah, Pep's signing a CB.

Probably not Bonucci if we are in on Sandro, you'll be glad to hear.

Straight swaps don't really happen, especially not like that. I'd say if we get Sandro (or another top LB like say Bernat/Grimaldo) we won't be in on Gaya.

Also I think the VVD ship has sailed and he's off to the Chavs. Haven't heard anything to the contrary from @tolmie's hairdoo or otherwise.

Not sure we'd sign Tielemans for DM. He did play a few games there this season but it's not his natural position, think more Spanish Dave, and he would probably find it tough in the PL. Similarly, Fabinho seems unlikely here, but I'd be surprised if we didn't get at least one Monaco player this summer and, if we're in on Sandro, it won't be Mendy.

Right now, this looks more plausible to me:
Ederson
Sandro
Laporte
Walker
DM (Weigl?)
Sanchez
That, IMO, would be a perfect summer for us. I want Laporte more than any of the other CBs we're linked to because he's left footed but I think Pep is still pissed about what happened last summer.

Laporte is out. Laporte fucked us out of nowhere and Pep was irate. Good for Pep. Unprofessional douchebag move and I never wanted him after that.

1. How do you know this?
2. He's still being linked to City, including in today's MEN.
3. Bonucci also fucked us, though for differing reasons, as did Sandro, Isco and lord knows how many others.
4. I'm pretty sure Pep isn't so petty to hold a grudge for a young player's wrong decision and cares more about football and attitude on/off the park.

That said, yes, I'd tend to agree that Laporte seems unlikely. However VVD is almost certainly Chavski bound, Bonucci is settled (and Juve won't sell more than one) and, with Vinny now an option, it seems likely Pep will opt for a younger, long-term partner for Stones at the position.

I read it from citywatch. Pep was furious with Laporte and wouldn't go back in for him because of his lack of professionalism. I think they even paid the cityTV crew to come in and shoot his arrival. It's not petty at all in my opinion.

As far as point 3. I don't want any player that pulls shit like this. Especially Laporte. We didn't have time to sign a CB because of him. That's just me. If they sign then I'll support.

Link?

The last news on Aymeric Laporte on City Watch actually states we are in on him again.

Further, as I mentioned, multiple sources confirm City remain interested in the player and even Laporte himself hinted to this a month ago.

Again, Bonucci did the same thing - was almost a done deal but backed out due to domestic reasons. And ultimately we did sign a CB in John Stones and he partnered well with Vinny until the latter saw injury again, a mistake Pep likely won't want repeating.

I don't know if we'll get Laporte, if anything his price tag is likely now too high to stomach, but of those linked with us so far he seems to me to be more likely. Perhaps @tolmie's hairdoo knows of other CB targets too?

On Laporte, who knows.....you may well be right.
However,'Citywatch' isn't an authority,he is simply the king of copy and paste. At the time i certainly don't remember any quotes from Pep.
I would imagine if he believes Laporte is the best option for us,we will be knocking on his door again.
Pep,imo, wont be petty enough to hold a grudge against a kid who,in all probablity, was acting on the advice of those with their own interest/agenda at heart.

@Akiva @FantasyIreland

I don't have the link. I know I'm not completely fabricating the story either. I read it somewhere that he was furious behind the scenes and he was pissed with the lack of professionalism. Maybe someone else read it and can find the link. Whether it's true or not I'm not sure. I always take it was a grain of salt unless I hear it directly.

John was always coming. It was always supposed to be two CB's so I don't see the Stones signing factoring in to Laporte 'screw job'.

Bonucci was different. He was 'almost done' like you mentioned however Laporte was done and dusted with the cityTV crew waiting for him. I concede that it's petty on my part for holding a grudge for Isco etc.. but not on Laporte .. I won't budge on this one.

I mean, ultimately, whether we hold grudges is largely irrelevant if Pep doesn't and still wants the player, as there seems to be evidence that is the case.

Here's an example: Kyle Walker is a very good RB, but IMO he's an unlikeable asshole who will cost twice as much as Benjamin Heinrichs who, despite being raw, seems a more suitable candidate long term for the position. All that doesn't matter though, because we're in on Walker and the trail's gone cold on Heinrichs.

Again, I'm not convinced we'll get Laporte, but I haven't seen anything to suggest Pep's interest is any less than what it was last summer for a player who has arguably a very unique skillset.

Good points. We just have separate POV's. What Laporte pulled will get you roasted and torched in the states by the media, players, owners, and fans. In fact, Deandre Jordan (NBA) did the same exact thing and got destroyed for it. It's very different for me to see people not even phased or bothered...seemingly at all...for the betrayal. Maybe you and many others don't see it that way but it sure as hell looked like one to me.

If Pep wants him and we sign him then I'm on board. Let's move on though. No need to drag this on and clog up the thread.
