From what I know/read on the Laporte situation, he was very close and we'd even made graphics at City welcoming his arrival. Khaldoon and Chris Bailey mentioned it in the end of season interview.

We even looked at hiring a Spanish tax firm to help with paying the release clause as there's tax issues in Spain.

He backed out at the last second a massive offer from Bilbao, making him the most well paid player in their history. Pep was furious and I'm sure there's no way we'll entertain going back in for him.

Guessing we're after another CB, which I guess is the right thing to do as Kompany isn't trust worthy. If (big if at that) Vinnie miraculously stays fit for the whole campaign, then the CB depth would be needlessly ridiculous and expensive.

In fact, Deandre Jordan (NBA) did the same exact thing and got destroyed for it. It's very different for me to see people not even phased or bothered...seemingly at all...for the betrayal. Maybe you and many others don't see it that way but it sure as hell looked like one to me.

I don't know, I think it's an interesting topic.

To me, it's usually just business and I wouldn't hold a grudge against Isco or Bonucci for what they've done. It obviously does depend on the circumstances and you usually only hear one side as a supporter.

Some really had it in for Kaka when it looked like he'd backed out of a deal but, as it turned out, that was a political move by Silvio Berlusconi who realised how much support he'd lose by selling Kaka and he couldn't afford to miss the opportunity for some decent publicity with an election around the corner.

If we go back in for Laporte then it's hard to believe that what City_Sean said is correct. That would be highly unprofessional behaviour and the wasted time/ effort/ money would have been completely avoidable. As such, it wouldn't be just a case of holding a grudge but avoiding someone who would most likely be bad for business.

But do we have any links to this or is it all ITK rumours or speculation?

I'm not denying he backed out of the deal, or even we were that close to signing him (Txiki denied this, of course), but this talk of Pep being furious and us losing interest is unfounded and indeed contracts numerous reports indicating we still are in on the lad.

It looks like @KCblue @City_Sean and myself might have saw the same thing. I think it might have been from an article with the guy who is close to Pep that wrote his book. He was giving out some info about transfers and Peps thinking?

No club would refuse to sign Henrichs given the opportunity. But with today's market it's more about the player's desire to join than club's ability to pay - there are too many rich clubs fighting for a very limited pool of top talents. Given Bayern's monopoly on getting Bundesliga players I suppose it's the most likely destination for Henrichs. Judging by rumours, we met with his representatives, so he knows about Guardiola's serious interest. If he doesn't want to move abroad, he'll end up at Bayern as Lahm's successor.

Another 'German' duo that would fit City like a glove is Weigl and Pulisic, but getting them ahead of other top clubs (and Bayern) would be too complicated as well. And they don't seem to want the move any soon as BVB are doing wonderful work with youngsters.
