So......

Messi leaves, Signs a 2 year contract with us, City then put on their website "We have Messi" (City have had no contact with Barcelona, because they believe that Messi is out of contract)

Barcelona says "Messi is still a Barca player"

What then?

Messi buys himself out of the contract if the court rules against him. Otherwise he walks for free.

what a transfer window this could be:

Ake and Koulibaly - that really helps sort our defence out.

Torres - replaces Sane

Messi - no need to add anything to that.

Im presuming there would be no more than that but you can also include Steffan in to replace Bravo as well

What about JFE, has he signed yet?...,)

Telegraph football 'back page' is worth reading. Available on BBC gossip.

Contains comments from a sports lawyer who says that in a dispute over the terms of the contract, CAS would likely favour Barcelona.

Seems to me that although City maybe able to agree terms with Messi it will come down to whether City can agree a fee with barcelona because it would be too high risk to try and force through a free transfer.

Lmao imagine wanting to leave City if Messi comes to join the shambles he is fleeing from!

I do think Barcelona could have an excellent team next season without Messi.

Greizmann and Coutinho are brilliant players who can finally play in their position. De Jong is incredible and Koeman seems like he's got the stones to boot Busquets. Ter Stegen is one of very best keepers in the world, the CB partnership of Lenglet and Pique was one of the few OK parts of the side.

They'll need a good box to box midfielder, a LB and a RB, but there's a really good side in that squad. Some very promising kids coming through too.

They won't have Messi. It's impossible to know how much that will effect them until he's actually not there, but the £800m they spent in the last 4 or 5 years as not all gone down the drain.

Don’t understand why we passed on Tagliafico tbh, looks made for us and cheap as well. But I suppose they looked at him and maybe the fact he is 27 And is still at Ajax told them something didn't add up
Weren’t certain so called ITKs on here and some goon on Facebook telling us to bet real life money on Chilwell to City?

All this left back talk gets me excited, then somebody mentions Chillwell.

Thank fuck he's finally gone.

Daniel Timperley? Very very strange fellow. But from Mossley so explains a lot.

I don't know why any lawyer worth their salt would go on record deciding who they think would win in a dispute over a contract and a clause in that contract they have never seen. He says the "literal" version would win...but if we learned anything from the CAS debacle it's that legal language is not always black and white.

Also anyone who thinks City are risking paying the full €700m clause can be ignored immediately, they're clueless.

I do agree with him that Messi would think twice about the legal situation before forcing a move. He'd probably consult lawyers who've seen the contract and speak to UEFA and FIFA who validate the contract before handing in a transfer request.
