i absolutely trust everything that TH and everyone else is posted so this is a genuine question...
Why is the fact that La Liga posted their statement seemingly good news for us...it seemed to support what Barca are saying - ie they wont let messi go as he is contractually obligated to them for another 12 months (unless a release clause is payed)
cheers
After CAS we clearly have Tebas' piss boiling with the probability that La Ligas greatest asset , and lets put it in a timescale, EVER, will be joining his nemesis
He has his own problems after that disgraceful Fuenlabrada episode and subsequent cover up.
A win- win if ever there were
none ...im asking a genuine question as stated
I am not sure anyone thinks it's good news.i absolutely trust everything that TH and everyone else is posted so this is a genuine question...

The way I see it is we now have 3 outcomes. But he is under contract so even that doesnt mean they will have to sell - of course it would be very difficult fo them to keep him and not play him or play him knowing his mindset (though over time with being at the club, around friends and the fans that could change his mind also)
It also means we will have to pay for him doesnt it? ((f Barca are willing to negotiate)
Do you really think after the year we have just had that the board would knowingly subject the club to a risk like that?
Very small possibility that there's ructions politically at barca enabling a new regime. That was Sky and mainstream media's initial angle on this. A messi plot to infuence the Barca regime. I think we can discount that. The way I see it is we now have 3 outcomes.
Barca negotiate a fee for Messi with us and sell him for circa £100mil. This is what is the easiest and best for all parties and seemingly what Messi is trying to get them to do.
If they continue to refuse then that leaves us with 2 other options.
Messi takes them to court over his contract about this free clause and Barca run the risk of losing him for nothing. Barti's quotes from last year do him no favours.
Or
The Webster ruling is invoked and FIFA settle the price. Again Barca run the risk of losing a decent amount of money.
The one guarantee is Messi has played his last game for Barca
If it turns out that it’s Barca in the right, I don’t see it getting done this season. But he is under contract so even that doesnt mean they will have to sell - of course it would be very difficult fo them to keep him and not play him or play him knowing his mindset (though over time with being at the club, around friends and the fans that could change his mind also)

I'd be interested in a lawyer's take on this, if his legal team have advised him not to fulfil any club obligations as that could be seen as honouring a contract he doesn't believe is valid, trying to get Barca to honour the agreement? Or if its just posturing in the hope that Barca agree to the transfer...
Either way, he's doing his bit to try and make the move happen which looks very positive for us. Fingers crossed.

Barca haven’t changed their stance that it’s €700m or it doesn’t get done, even if they were to negotiate I still see the fee being €200m-€300m.
Wouldn’t have thought it’d be financially viable.
Also would Messi want us paying a fee when in his eyes he’s a free to leave player? Could be a point of principle.
The Webster ruling is the other option, but I’ve seen conflicting reports/posts on that option.
This will probably end up in the courts, we’ve basically gone round in circles over the last few days.
Just my opinion on the way it’s looking and progressing, hopefully I’m wrong but we seem to be at a stalemate at the minute.

They would have to be beyond stupid to demand that though. Ronaldo went for 100 million euros at the same age, with more than one year left on his contract. If it turns out that it’s Barca in the right, I don’t see it getting done this season.

Because at the minute Barca are saying €700m or it doesn’t happen, just don’t see it getting done for €100m if Barca still believe he his under contract. Why would the fee be 200 million ?
Without actually seeing his contract I’m not sure any lawyer would have anything relevant to say.
Doesn’t seem to have stopped La Liga, however.
